XM auxilliary only in mono???
My wife bought me an XM roady XT for Xmas last year. Since my last 4 few cars were convertibles, I wasn't entirely thrilled about installing it in them.
So, now that I have a coupe, I installed my XM under the radio in the little compartment. I really like the comedy channels but can never seem to hear them. It's like the volume is SO much lower than when I turn the radio back to FM.
So, after 3 weeks of fumbling with it, I took a good look at the XM and realized the factory setting for volume is set of a 3 out of 5.
Cool, so I turn it up and only until I can now hear it, I realize it's only coming out the left speakers.
Using the balance control on the radio confirms that I have nothing coming out of the right side speakers.
I stole my daughter's ipod cable (it's about 8" long, fits perfectly) and plugged it into the auxilliary jack. The cable has two black stripes on it indicating stereo.
Anyway, I had to run down to Radio Shack and get a mono to stereo jack adapter (less than 3 bucks) and now the XM comes out all the speakers.
Though it's not really in stereo, at least it comes out all the way around.
Did anyone else notice this or is the Roady XT the bottom of the line and only produces signals out in mono.
Thanks,
Mark

Why did you use a mono to stereo? You need a stereo to stereo cable. It should be stereo reception on xm. I have a sportscaster (the absolute cheapest xm receiver-I think it was free) and I get great stereo via the aux in plug.
The stereo cable I used was stereo to stereo... (it had two black stripes on each end)
It still didn't work. When I used the mono to stereo adapter, it worked great.
Go figure.

You're still only listening to one side, but it's being combined to left and right by the mono cable. Try your daughter's iPod with the stereo cable. If you have stereo, then the problem is the radio or the mount.
If you've got a docking station for home use, check to see that you have stereo there. If so, the radio is good and the mount is most likely the culprit.
If you don't have a home docking station, then look at the connector pins on the radio and on the car mount. Look for bent, dirty or missing pins.
