Has anyone tried to put a BMW NAV data disk into an R56 Mini to see if it will read or if there is any difference in how it deals with the data?
The search functions allow name querries, but only once you've drilled down into the categories (useless) and it seems to limit the geography a lot.
Because the search functions appear to be on the disk, perhaps BMW handles it better.

The key thing to realize is that there are two different types of Navteq data disc - High and Professional. The 1st Gen MINIs w/factory Nav use the High discs, and the newer 2nd Gen MINIs use the Professional discs.
You can't mix and match between generations. The same rule applies between different generations of BMW vehicles as well. The older, iBus-based vehicles use the High discs, and the newer iDrive-based vehicles use the Professional discs.
GDT and Navteq are the two major street/poi/etc dataset providers.
GDT used to provide everyone with their street data (yahoo, mapquest, msn, etc), but TeleAtlas/Navteq totally took over and I rarely see GDT being used anywhere.
Anyways, our company has a subscription to use both GDT and Navteq datasets, GDT sends us a set of discs for the US every 6 months.
