Works this time, and WOW I definitely don't have one of those. How odd that they'd make such a strangely configured input.

It should be part of the package per my MA but others have been charged $100-$110 for it. Make sure that you get it for free and if they refuse to give it to you then call Mini USA and complain.

Are you saying that you actually get audio to play with just a regular iPod cable that you would use with you computer. If so that is not supposed to work as there is no actual audio on the USB of an iPod. The audio is on a different set of pins in the connector at at the iPod and requires the use of an audio jack cable.

Don't you worry. I've been a model customer, but I'm prepared to go to town on this one if need be. My MA has been great, so I expect no problems.

I can listen to the music stored in my iPod with the USB cable connecting iPod to MINI. So... That is weird.

I do not have the nice cable either, my dealer never mentioned it.

So I guess that cable is the real problem, but I do not think my dealer will give me one for free... They did not give me the best of services...

I too can play music stored on my iPod using the standard white USB cable provided by Apple with the iPod.

Very interesting! But your playlists still don't show up? Maybe you're using the iPod in hard drive mode by doing this, and that's why it works without recognizing lists (since I don't think the playlists conform to FAT file hierarchy, which is what the MINI reads off a USB drive). Does it seem to take a long time for your songs to load up?

This would probably work only w/Windows formatted iPods, not Mac.

That's right. No playlists, but everything else is there. The iPod does report itself as a new external drive when docked (even though I've unchecked that box in iTunes, I've never cared to figure out why). It is a FAT32 PC formatted iPod so I agree, that is probably the reason I drove away from the dealer thinking my iPod integration was successful.

Just got a call from my MA, the Service Dept. is FedExing me my cable. Awesome! I'll let you know if that solves playlist problems.

That's awesome, they were very quick about it. I have yet to speak with the guys who sold me the MINI.

I hope you get the problem solved with this cable.

I too can use my Ipod with just the standard cable that plugs from the Ipod into USB only, never tried playlists though.

Problem is....my new Ipod TOUCH is not being recognized by my MINI at all.....

My dealer didn't give me that wire either. But I'm in Canada, maybe I won't have the option of getting it from them.

Please see this thread for an explanation of some of the limitations of the iPod connections in the Mini

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...8&postcount=38

The above post is related to this thread in that with a standard iPod cable there will be no play lists avaliable as the ICE (in car entertainment) system does not recognize the iPod properly. You must use the Mini supplied cable and or a made up equivalent.

jessyca33

One question are you using the Mini supplied cable or the standard white cable that came with you touch. I fyou are using the white cable then that is the reason the Touch is not working at all. The ICE system does not know what to do with the Touch as it is not being told by the cable to access the Touch with the correct software protocols.

Hmm... I have complete functionality including playlists with my Archos. Was thinking that ipods connected with a standard usb would be the same excepting the file limitations.

The Archos and the Ipod work on completely different software systems and as for locked down functionality the iPod takes the cake. There is almost nothing that can be done to an iPod to make it more functional.

Unfortunately, I was given the wrong information by my dealer. He told me I would need a y-cable, but he told me to buy the wrong type of y-cable. He said to get one that plugged into the usb, and the other end plugged into the cigarette lighter. I really didn't believe it would make a difference, but figured I should give it a shot anyways. So, no it doesn't work with either of those.

I've been trying to find a straight answer, because I don't want to spend money on things if the Touch has no chance of ever working.

So if I have the mini supplied wire, the touch will work?

My problem is, they don't seem to include it in canada. I'm hearing that in the states most of you get them from your dealers.......Any idea how I could get one that will work? Since the aftermarket non-mini ones do not seem to be working for people?

Nothing except being able to use a $5 miniUSB cable to operate it instead of one supplied by the Mini dealer, eh? Just curious, does the usb cable charge the Archos too? That would be cool.

That's a bummer. I knew they were locked down but didn't know it was so extreme.

Part of the reason I originally went with the Archos was to have complete freedom in how I use my mp3 player. Guess it was a good choice for more reasons than I realized.

No it doesn't sure would be cool if it did. The Archos does hold a charge quite well but if I need to charge it in the car I use a power inverter adapter so I can plug the standard ac cord in. Not a perfect solution as its quite bulky but it works.

your best bet would be to check the operation with the correct Mini Supplied Cable. Talkd to your SA or part department and see if they have one and plug it into the Touch and into the car. If it works great. Its upto you if you want to spend the $100+ for it. If it does not work let me know and i will see if i can find a new one around to do some testing with.

Thats Apple for you. Just about everything they do is locked down so it is hard to use. But one good thing about that is that their computers very rarely get viruses.

The only reason to have the Cigarette lighter side is for charging, but that is not needed as the iPod will be charged thru the USB port just as if it was connected to your computer.

See my other post earlier in this thread about the proper cable to use.

Gad Zooks...I'm befuddled too...

Gents...

What sound system are you running?....I just intalled the Ipod harness in my 07 Cabbie wHK/Ss....same symptoms. Does anyone running an HK know where to find instructions on how to operate the Ipod through the HK? The instuctions with the harness are for the standard MINI SS. Also have trouble with some of my songs getting cut short...what's that all about?

I'm thrilled to report that my MINI iPod Y-cable arrived last night from my MA with my plates via FedEx. I swapped out my standard white ipod cable for the MINI Y-cable and ta-da! my playlists are now functioning perfectly and my system fully recognizes my iPod. Hooray!
