noob to subwoofers/audio systems

im looking to get a sub/amp setup for my R56 and i was wondering what combo you guys would recommend? i listen to a lot of hip hop and classic rock, and just about everything in between. i want a combo that SLAPS and makes a LOT of noise. i was looking at the Alpine type X 10" woofer with 500-1000 watts RMS and a 3000 watt peak. what amp would you recommend i use with this? do you think this is too much power?

I would definitely go with the Alpine PDX-4.1000. The Type X subs sound phenominal, but only if you feed them their full rated power. In the case of the 10-inch model, the magic number is 1000 watts continuous (and hence my amp recommendation). That sub/amp combination will definitely make plenty of noise, no doubt.

Good luck.

Correction, I meant to say the Alpine PDX-1.1000. Sorry for the confusion.

I had 2 12" kenwood subs in my last car with a 1000W kenwood Amp that I am selling. I would install in the Mini but the box is pretty big and I dont want to take up room in the Trunk. If that's the route you want to take, I can tell you, 1000W is pretty damned loud. WHen the bass kicks in it feels like you're sitting in one of those vibrating massage chairs. Anything loose will vibrate, so you may want to consider getting some foam to pad your license plate and whatever else you find vibrating.
For the Mini, I am going to be installing a 4 channel AMP and getting some high end speakers to replace hte stock ones. It's going to be a bit more expensive than a 2 channel and 2 subs, but the sound quality will be fuller, and I wont lose space with the subs
