scratching/crackling

At certain volume levels (louder then low but not loud) I hear a scratching/crackling sound from the drivers side rear speaker. It sounds very much like a loose connection rather then distortion. It's pretty faint which is probably why I can't hear it from the passengers side.

For those of you that have gotten to that speaker how is it connected to the rest of the system (plug or hard-wire)? Would there be anyway to check the speaker connection without pulling apart the whole rear of the car? Does that speaker cable run directly back to the amp?

Other reasons for this I should look into? Thanks in advance.
