Navigation & Audio Disconnect CD Changer?
Disconnect CD Changer?
I just purchased a 2002 Cooper S, my first mini. It has a cd changer in the "boot" with a single player in the head unit. Can I unplug the cd changer from the head unit and run a input cable from my ipod (or xm) into to head unit? Without messing anything up, like computer codes. Are there any posts showing how to remove the head unit, i.e. getting at the back of the radio... Thanks - I'm love'n my Mini....
You can disconnect the changer without any issues. Simply unplug the two cables and tuck them back behind the access panel. The changer option simply goes away when pressing the mode button.
To get a working Aux jack won't be possible with your year. You will need to get a newer OEM radio or go aftermarket. You can however get an iPod interface kit and/or XM Direct w/ Blitzsafe. Both integrate through the changer interface allowing direct control of those devices through the stock radio. The Blitzsafe has a pass through connector so you can connect both to the single CD changer cable.
If you do a search, you will find plenty of information regarding iPod and XM integrations. Some of these solutions don't even require removing the radio!

You can unplug the CD changer, but that may not be the best solution.
You can add the OEM Aux Input (depending on the year of the head unit), or as mentioned, update the head unit and simultaneously add the Aux Input.
If you have Nav, the Intravee II is an awesome (though pricey) interface which uses the CD changer inputs and displays the Ipod info on the Nav screen.
