AUX Function Keeps Turning Off

Recent problem, sometimes when my ipod is plugged into my aux input the stereo will turn to the radio function. When I hit the mode button, it just cycles from radio to cd, but not aux. If I pull the plug out of the ipod 3.5 jack it will cycle to aux, but plug it back in and turn on ipod it goes right back to radio. Any ideas? I thought maybe it was something with my ipod and tried my girlfriend's ipod and it did the same thing. It doesn't always happen though, and seems to occur after the car has been running for a while, like after the radio gets hot.

GLI - Ground Loop Isolator
I don't understand it but it's a common issue. Do a search on GLI and you should find your answer.

You need one of these:
ground loop isolator

See posts #90 and 91 in here:

I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Thanks. So is this something that can just start to occur? I have been using my aux input & ipod for the past two years, the problem just started two weeks ago.

Yes, it is something that can start to happen when it was previously okay. The real determining factor is the iPod being plugged into aux input and power (e.g. cigarette lighter) at the same time. If the iPod is only running from its battery and the aux still disappears, the problem could be something else.

Interesting, I always do have it plugged into the charger. Thanks for the info guys, you are what makes this forum so great. Have a question and you fellow MINI folks will have an answer. Thanks again.

Funny that this started happening to me within the last 2 weeks with my Sirius unit. Sometimes AUX would come back, other times it won't. Worked fine for the last 2 years. Just ordered the isolator from Crutchfield. Thanks for the info!
