Focal component question

I was trying to decide between the HiFi and the standard stereo when I read the sticky regarding speaker replacement. I have a set of Focal Polyglass 130V and a Kicker ZR120 I bought several years ago and never used. I believe from what I read that this will work, correct? Would I need an adapter for the 130mm speakers to fit correctly?
So it looks like I would be able to install the speakers myself and have the amp professionally installed. What is the best way to secure the tweeters if I used the 3.5" speaker location? There are no brackets with the tweeters.

Thanks!

130mm sounds a bit small. I used 6.5" (165mm) speakers, and they fit pretty well. You would probably have to make an adaptor.

There is a thread here with photos about mounting tweeters in the 3.5" location (which is really a 4" location). Try searching for that thread. With the HIFI, there are tweeter locations in the A pillars you could use instead of the 4" location. The 6.5" location is mostly for bass. You might want a mid-range speaker for the 4".

Rumor is, if you go with the HIFI, you need to leave the stock amp in place so the OBC can see it.

Standard might have fewer complications for adding an amp, I'm not really sure.

According to the guy that works at my dealership who programs the OBC (on board computer) in the MINIs and BMWs, you do not need to have the hifi amp in place for anything...well.. unless the software in the amp itself needs updating.

I would know, because I removed mine, then my car broke (see thread on it). They had to reflash the entire computer to make sure there wasn't some whacked out software issue, and it worked fine without the amp in place.

According to the guy, Regan is his name, there are no fiber links that are tied to the car going to the amp. And it's not just dependent on options... Some BMW parts vary, say if you have comfort access. My car is fully and I mean fully (retailing at almost 50k) loaded, and as stated, no problems without the stock amp.

Did not see this thread when i first come out but i can tell you that my 4/08 build Clubman MUST HAVE THE AMP INSTALLED to do ANY SOFTWARE changes. I was in the shop when the Tech tried ot update the software in my car and we tested it with the amp disconnected and the update would not even start. Once the amp was connected back up the update would start and worked flawlessly.
