Navigation & Audio Wow amazing
Wow amazing
So I plan on getting a new car in the next 2 months (I know I'll miss my mini too) so I decided to order a NAV system now to get used to it. I decided on the Garmin Nuvi 760 and all I can say so far is WOW. This thing is so far superior to the BMW/Mini Nav system its insane. The touch screen is awesome, no more turning a ****. Easier to find POI's and favorite locations. Way easy to add addresses.
Grant it I've only had it for a few hours now but so far 2 thumbs up.
Only thing I miss so far is the the sound going through my car speakers (the speaker on this nuvi is pretty bad even at 100%) I liked how the Mini would lower your music volume to announce turns and such then put it back to normal.

I have the Nuvi 660 and I can have the sound go through my car speakers. You should be able to do the same thing.

Don't sacrifice your XM
I have the Nuvi 760 and Sirius and had the same problem. Heres the soulution I came up with. (cut and paste from my atlantaminis post)
Frustrated by the single aux input on my factory radio I just installed the JL Audio Cleansweep Source Expander Switch to my MCS.
The Background Problem: running a plug and play Sirius tuner and utilizing a Garmin Nuvi at the same time through the coopers radio was not possible through the single aux input.
The Solution: a source prioritizing audio switch.
The Installation: Easy. 12v constant , 12v switched & a ground. Then just running audio cables from up to 3 devices.
The Results: inputing the Sirius tuner to the lowest port allows me to continue enjoying my satellite radio while never missing an instruction from the nav system while on guided drives. The CL-SES switches INSTANTLY to the higher priority audio source and automatically switches back about 6 seconds after the higher source goes quiet. Works Fabulously. I tested the brand new installation on the Winter Drive yesterday and was more than pleased with the function in both operation and audio quality. I noticed no degradation whatsoever.
Anyone who would like to enjoy the enhanced audio quality of inputing their nav system through the cars audio system rather than settling for their units weak and cheesy built in speaker should look into this solution. I would highly recommend it.

I have a few questions...
1. Where did you mount the NAV?
2. Can you easily take out the unit to program, or when you want to use it in another vehicle (ie vacations)?
3. Sirius: What components are required for getting this installed? I didn't get the $1000 Sirius installed by the factory, but would consider the alternative now.
Thanks!

The InV was ($30) chosen because its night colors closely match the mini instrument panel; and because it is super compact and does not use a mounting base. The microphone to the left of the InV is for the Nuvi's bluetooth handsfree phone option. an external mic pointed at the driver significantly improves the audio quality of a phone call. I use the standard lighter plug for the Nuvi instead of hard wiring it like everything else for trwo reasons. 1) It serves at the antenna for the traffic avoidance feature. 2) I wanted to leave the nuvi portable between vehicles. Taking it out of the Mini would take me about 5 minutes. Hope this helps you.
