Navigation & Audio 2007 Convertible - Factory iPod adapter?

2007 Convertible - Factory iPod adapter?
The dealer installed an iPod adapter for my 2007 Mini Convertible. I have a black connector coming into the glove box. However, it will not work with my 2nd generation Nano or my iPhone. It works with the 1st generation and the iPod video that they used to test it.
Does anyone have a 2nd gen NANO or iPhone that works with the adapter?
I'm wondering if they installed the wrong adapter. From searching the board, I'm confused if I want the older adapter, or the new one (R56?). I think I get the new one since it was ~500. Does anyone have the part number?
Sorry if these are stupid questions. I'm still new to the MINI world
Update: Ok, they installed the wrong one. Anyone have a ballpark figure for how much this should have been?
