I want to try to re-install my factory radio and i want to ask if there's anywhere might i find a how-to? i gotta take my alpine off first and find out if they hardwired the wiring into the new radio

otherwise, if anyone has a good how to please do let me know

 

I would think the best solution would be to get a chopped wiring harness from wrecking yard, then you need only match up the colors and resplice, assuming they cut the original harness. You'll need the OEM plug anyway.

 

i have the radio out, the harness was retained so i guess i am lucky

problem is though the red wire, from the graph of the alpine unit it says its to the ignition, that is directly plugged to the wire on the alpine unit

anyone know what's the red wire?, and if i re-splice everything, where does it go

 

Red is for the ignition, it becomes powered when you turn on your car

Got this off the internet, hopefully it applies to Mini's but not sure.

 

i plugged the radio back in the car, everything seems to work fine, radio recives, power to the unit, cd plays, just that red wire's function eludes me

i just stuffed it in the dash and put some electrical tape on it, lets hope it doesn't become a problem later
