Factory Head Unit Depth??

Hello all,

I have a '06 MCS with the factory stereo system, no HK or anything, Does anyone know the actual depth an after market head unit can be & still fit as flush as the factory one. Currently looking at one that is 6.5" & have not taken mine out to see? Thanks!

Stock head unit (same as HK) is 6.25" to the back edge of the faceplate. You MIGHT be able to fit a 6.5" in there - I usually have to nudge the HU a bit to get it to snug in with all the wires back there.

Crutchfield's database is generally pretty good, and they list 7-1/8" as the maximum allowable depth.

I think you'll be fine with a 6.5" depth, though. I've seen a Pioneer AVIC-N1 installed in a first-gen car, and its listed depth is 6.5"

You might want to troll some of the threads here to find out what head units people have put into their cars, and then look up the mounting depths for those units to get a feel for what fits.

May try that. All my other vehicles stereo wires are stuffed in there so I am used to it...

Thanks for the quick replies. I have searched other head units that have been installed quite a bit over the last year but I'm putting in an Alpine IVA-W205 double din & relocating the a/c & toggles down about 1.25" and have not seen that done...so I'm giving it a try if the depth works out!
