Line level conversion for MINI Cooper

I saw a guide that explained the removal of the stereo head unit very well. However, the only guide on the line-level conversion is here:

http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_ste...320915,00.html

But some of it is cryptic to a Mini Modifications Newbie : )

It seems like you get a line level converter (specific to the Mini? Any idea who sells those?) and simply splice similar colored wires (ie right rear negative from wiring harness to LLConverter) Is this completely wrong or kinda right?

Has anyone done this conversion, and should i even bother if my amp has speaker level inputs?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Zack
