Navigation & Audio looking for a GPS system
looking for a GPS system
one of my friends has a Mio 220, seems cool for the price, 3.5" touchscreen, etc.
any one have experience with others? im looking for one, something nice. getting a flip out or double din indash with navigation is out of the question, i dont want one in the mini. im going to make a fiberglass pod on the headliner to house whatever GPS system i get (next to the sunroof switch, bolting the pod to that black piece around the sunroof switch.
other things i wanna know, updates, do you update these every year or whatever to update the maps/etc? how is this done?
people that own these type of units, please give me reviews and pros/cons of the one that you own, im trying to compare, and so far, i only have seen the Mio 220 in real life.

MIOC220 is nice...been having one for 1 year now. There is also a hack for you to be able to play media on that gps unit (mp3, videos, etc...) http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...34&whichpage=5
i dont know about others, but this one does it all....pretty much.
good luck, go slow on the hack and read each step if you decide to do it.

I've been real happy with the Garmin products for the last few years and many of my associates have as well. Good warrenty if needed and a wide variety of units for any budget. Sounds like an add doesn't it? No I do not have stock in the company LOL
Another Garmin fan here. About 20 of my business associates also have and swear by Garmins. Only one has a TomTom and likes it. Several Garmin owners switched from TomTom. As was said, wide price range and feature sets. I have a 350 for a couple of years and have been very happy. Hope to get a 760 next year and move the 350 to our other car permanently.
With the Garmins, they release periodic software updates that you can download and install free. The maps are updated every 1-2 years and cost about $70 each update.

I just bought the Garmin 750 and mounted it to the down tube with the Pro Clips set up. Great GPS, the reception is fast within 10-20 sec even in side the garage or house. Sams club 496.00. Proclip on line for 60.00.
I found this which might be of interest. Circuit City is (was?) selling a Tomtom 1, v.3 for about 150. Based on the review here, it seemed like a good way to go, for the money.

Can't go wrong with Garmin
I was just in my local Costco today and they have the Nuvi 680 with a 1 year subscription for weather and traffic on sale for $499. I have a Nuvi 360, Zumo 550 and Street pilot 2820 in the other cars and they are all very , very good.....I swear by Garmin especially in my airplane where the GPS takes me through weather and keeps me safe!
Garmin has their roots in aviation.....and they are the DE FACTO standard so I trust and know them to take their products very seriously.
On the couple of occasions that I have had a problem with the auto units Garmin has replaced them within 48 hours......awesome customer service.....good luck!

Anyhow, I'm no GPS expert - so many people are happy with Garmin - there must be something to them. But I have no complaints about the Tomtom, either.
I've been using Garmin units since they first became available to the general public. Sure, I've had a couple problems over the years, but what keeps me coming back is the excellent customer service.
Long story short: they once replaced my GPS with a new one under warranty after it had been run over by a car.
