My MA paired my Motorola V3 when we bought the car. It works like a charm...recognizes phonebook, has good reception. The only downside is that it really drains the battery. It's an old phone so it may not be the best for others, but I'm happy.

I think I had one of those. As I recall it was the first Moto with BT. Isn't it about 5 years old though?

I think I have one that was released more recently, but it is still pretty old technology. On the upside, it was cheap from Ebay. .....and it works with the bluetooth config

T-Mobile MDA III compact aka HTC 3300 Pocket Pc Phone edition with integrated GPS

I've got an MCS showing up with the Bluetooth option enabled. I want to start my new cell search with the phones that work with that option. Other features on my list include:
  • On board camera -- I'm a bit of a photography nut, and have often longed to have the capabilities to take shots from my pockets. I've seen shots from other phone cameras and understand some of the limitations. I'd pay more dollars for a phone with a nice camera.
  • Simplicity -- I'm capable of jumping through lots of hoops to make stuff work together, but I prefer to spend my time in other ways. Bring on the simple!
  • Size -- I waited a few extra years for a small form-factor phone that'd fit in my pocket with ease. I have no desire to fill my pocket with something bulky. A hip-holster is a non-starter.
  • Web enabled -- Not a deal-breaker, but I would pay extra for something that'd allow me some surfing.
Items which I don't need are the capablilty of playing audio files or synching with email (I work for a small company that doesn't even have its own exchange server, let alone understand how to snych PDAs).

Relevant issues include an hour spent commuting each day, and a current cell phone on [edit:]Sprint[/edit] (but I'm not locked in with this carrier).

So, what says the NAM community? Is there a phone out there which will fit my needs and communicate with my MCS? Thanks!

T-Mobile MDA III compact aka HTC 3300 Pocket Pc Phone edition with integrated GPS works like a charm !

(Received my car MCS 2008 (AUTO START STOP FUNCTION) )

Get the armrest cradle if you got the option of it being pre wired. Keeps it charged.

Any idea where I can buy one from? My MA didn't know. I would love to have it though b/c I can't imagine what else that small arm rest would be useful for!

I got mine from my dealer, took just a few days. Installation is super easy.

Just a bit earlier in this thread some people list where they've found them, and there is a link to a supplier that lists the part numbers for many of the available snap-ins. I'm sure if you supplied your MA with a part number, or checked with someone in your dealer's service department they would be able to check into it for you.

Is there a link to installation instructions? Also, does the sliding cover in the armrest still work with the armrest cradle in there?

The sliding cover still slides, but with the snap-in there's not much extra room in there for other stuff... In all honesty, 'installation' is probably the wrong word- it's harder for me to get the armrest slid back and tilted up than it is to pop the existing snap-in out and put it back in.

I guess my question should be, is there a trick to popping out the old insert?

Not really- it's got an obvious-looking button on it that releases the clip holding it in. Press the button down, pull the front section of it backward and lift the front up.

I accidentally broke one of the plastic pins on the armrest when I was trying to tilt the armrest up though. Either I had it too far back or not back far enough, or something else was wrong. It was giving a bit of resistance and I assumed that it was one of those "I'm being too delicate with it" situations...

It's just one of the pins that keeps it from tilting up when it's not in the right spot, so sliding back and forth still works- the top just lifts up on one side if it's slid back and lifted up now.

If you order it, tell your dealer it's a BMW part. Otherwise, they might be confused. I ordered mine for the Razr through Classic Mini. They offer a discount for NAM members. Works great.

After much deliberation and investigation, everything kept coming back to the iPhone. I talked to my buddy (who works in an Apple Store) and he'll be placing the order (with his discount) this week.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to make suggestions and answer my questions. I hope no one is put out if I didn't go with your advice.
