Tried to say he thought it was a factory problem--I have the factory speakers in my closet!!!!!
The only required to be drilled in the doors are the ones (one per door) where the wires from the body to the cross over go. The DPSM speakers screw straight into the holes where the original speakers screwed in. The only way the speakers could be oriented wrong is if the person installing made a pretty big mistake or three.

Maybe the original pattern in the door was bad. I work in a fabrication shop. We build electronic enclosures for defense contractors, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, etc. Stuff happens, programs get loaded wrong, CNC machines misread lines of code, machines break, parts slip in the holders, and so forth. We had a power failure, and the back-up air system did not kick in on one of our milling centers, the milling bit went 3 inches into a 40,000 dollar cabinet.

Still not fixed

They moved the right front speaker, and installed some wiring alinement clips.
Still shorts out when it rains hard.

Darn, that sucks... would something like strategically applied silicone gel help?

Seems that there have to be some simple things that can be done to better protect against moisture.

I found out they moved the right speaker, seems the hole pattern in the door was off location. They added some wiring alignment clips. The Other dealer to work on the car had mentioned that car was missing alignment clips months ago. So far, they have replaced the instrument cluster , DPSM amp replaced twice, battery box replaced, the clip that holds the red power wire in the left cowl opening added, they have added a black grommet to that wire to protect it. right front speaker moved. They mentioned that the right front door was collecting water near that same speaker. Makes me wonder about how they added the door insulation. I have left a message (e-mail and voice mail) for my service adviser asking what do we do now?

Back in the shop, since 5-11-09. Same issue the Digital Power Sound Module is shorting out again. First the dealer told me they were going to replace the complete system, now its just the amp again plus the wiring in the doors. The amp has already been replaced at least twice, maybe three times is the charm. I had to do the Blue Ridge Parkway Tour in a loaner. At least I am keeping the miles down on my car. 14 trips to a MINI dealer and approaching 4 months in the shop since 10-24-06.

John, my name is Tom, I live in Marion, VA and I am now the owner of the 2006 Mini with the dragon on the top. Sound system is still messed up and I had it to dealer in Winston-Salem last week. Now I know why they did not want to work on it. I have also contacted MiniUSA. Would appreciate any info you will share with me. Thanks. E-mail is 19goosedog66@comcast.net cell phone is 276-706-0450.

Sorry to hear the car is still not fixed. I have documents for most if not all the service visits. I'll e-mail you when I get home from work.

Thank you, John. No hurry, I am leaving at noon today to go to UT game in Knoxville, won't be back till Sunday night. I probably will not waste time with FLOW, but get some of my HAM radio friends to look at sound system. Your documentation will show what has already been done. I really like the car, you took good care of it. Thanks again.
