DPSM Install Time
I got a DPSM kit in today and am looking forward to installing it. The only problem is that I live in an apartment and so any work I do to my car has to be completed during daylight (or the car has to be put back together enough for the night). How long should I budget to install? The instructions say 5 hours, is that accurate? I'm just trying to determine if I'll have enough time to do it tomorrow or Friday afternoon or if I should just wait until Saturday.
I have a MC, so I think the hardest part will be running the power cable from the battery to the amp; any tips? I've never installed an amp, so I'm a little nervous about running the power line, but I've taken the interior out of enough cars before that I'm not too concerned with the rest of the install.

Also, considering you're not a MINI tech who has done this hundreds of times... best to play it safe and start early on Saturday, maximizing the available time.
Great to see another person jump on the DPSM bandwagon! Welcome!

My advice - save it for Saturday morning. My understanding is that the quoted install times don't take removing and reinstalling the interior into account.

Glad to be on the bandwagon. I was trying to decide between the DPSM and a completely aftermarket system running from the stock HU. After reading about the custom stuff required to fit speakers in front and back and the cutting of the carpet to stuff an amp under the seats I dediced the kit was a safer bet. The last time I tried to custom mount something was an aluminum seat into my Miata (autocross car). That seat is still sitting in my parents' garage because I can't find a source for the bolts I need. I didn't want this stereo upgrade to turn into another seat.

I guess I should wait, it's just killing me to know that the system is just sitting there being unused and uninstalled :impatient.

Regardless of how much or how little you choose to document the process, please do keep us informed of how it goes.

LOL... I hear you... incidentally, you should take pictures and either blog or create a thread of your own for the install. A self-install showing how its done might be incentive to get others to try it! The only ones I've seen so far were custom fitting the DPSM into a GP, which is much harder due to the different interior pieces.

Maybe I can convince my roommate to help me with it (if he decides to not go to the football game Saturday).
MSRP for the coupe version of the kit is $1650, but you can get it from some places that always charge 20% under MSRP, so it would then be $1320.

When I installed mine, it took me approximately 5 hours. My time ran slightly long due to tracing down an issue that ultimately was the result of a bad amp (which was replace under warranty BTW). For me the hardest part was romving the interior bits as I had never done that before. The assembly and install went really quickly (in comparison).
