Audio cable into Aux Input (glovebox) '07 MCSC

Just bought an 07 MCSC that has the OEM aux input in the glove box. I was wondering how to go about routing an audio cable from there to somewhere outside the glove box (like below the toggle switches ) so I can hook up my ipod and still have access to it while driving (and not have to open the glove box). I have done a couple of searches and can't find what I am looking for - pics would be GREAT

I figure I could drill a hole in the interior of the glove box and run it through the back of the dash, but I would like to avoid drilling.

Thanks for the help.

Tony

First I installed this center console organizer ($20), then mounted the jack in the location indicated by the red X...

That part at the top actually installs almost horizontally below and behind the center console switch assembly. Though you can drill the hole after the cubby is installed (have to bend it down to drill from the back), it would be much easier to drill the hole before installation of the organizer. The jack is not visible but is accessible by feel.

That center console piece became standard starting with '05 model year with a slightly different shape and fitting, but it's the same idea.

Here is the aux installed on my '06 MCC. I installed it low because I wanted it to be visible. The white thing up in the slots is my LED lighting mod.

To detach the jack from the glovebox, you would unscrew the plate, then the ring nut that fastens the jack to the plate. The hard part now is to fish out the cable so you can reroute it, and it depends on how they've been installing it at the factory (I don't know). Up to '06, aux was an add-on accessary, but being standard with 07 cabrios, it is quite possible that the cable is now taped in a bundle with another wiring harness, and you might not be able to just tug on the cable from the radio end to fish it out. What I would suggest is to pull the radio out (not difficult, I can describe this if you don't find instructions). Then reach in and try to locate the cable going to the glovebox. You'll end up either with enough slack in the cable to reach the cubby, or the cable will be bundled with a harness (in this case you would have to undo the tape to get the cable out of the bundle).

So you are saying I should try to move the jack instead of routing a cable to it? I would think the second option would be much easier more OEM like (even if I have to drill a little hole). But I am keeping an open mind...

Move the jack. The cable is a couple of meters long. It will be much more "OEM" to remove the jack and plug the original hole with a plastic gimmick than to drill yet another hole, thread an extension through it to your final desired location. The position shown by RKW is a nice one BTW.

Maxhouse97, actually what you suggest would indeed be easier. I was thinking along the lines of very built-in, permanent installation. You may be able to find a good hidden path for the cable in the footwell/center console area without having to disturb much.
