I'm having a local shop do a custom job - well, custom box anyway - on mine this summer. I hear a lot of people using line out converters to get the job done, although I would think that the crossover in the amp would take care of that .

I'm not really into all the technical details, though, just good sound.

Also, when I took it over to have them look at it, we found a GREAT cubby hole for the amp in the right interior panel of the boot.

Is there an amp already there with the hi fi set up?

Yeah, I thought that was a suspiciously awesome spot to put an amp.

Well, that makes me happy that I didn't go with the Hi-Fi.

The X9331 connector under the panel near the bonnet release lever. There are other threads here with the pinouts and instructions.

You would have to do the swap after the amp in the rear of the car. The front and back signals at the X9331 are full range for all speakers. They get filtered somewhere around the rear amp, or in it.

OK I'll be the dumb guy

I cant pull up the wiring diagram not that it would answer my question I dont think. I get the site and go to the page but no diargram appears. All I want to know is if I can put one sub in the back and tap into the wires from the amp. If so...which wires. If not, can I do it from the X9331? If so, which wires? MRFLEMA said he did it but didnt say how. I just want a little more bass in my HIFI system. Thanks for any help.

I used the X9331. With the HIFI, all channels are full range. The bass cut-off happens at the amp. So, for an unfiltered channel, the X9331 is good. It is different with the standard system, because the filtering happens before the X9331.

SSL's Soundstorm USS8

This unit, which appears to be the same as a Boss Bass600, is currently selling at Amazon for 122.14. Very good price -many members have used it and seem pretty happy with the results.

Thanks Robin! Now one more thing. Did you tap into the front, rear, left, right? Thanks for dumbing this down for me!

I would tap into the left and right rears so that I would be able to maintain the fader and be able to adjust the sub with the fade a bit.

So Robin is this correct post swap?

I tapped into the right & left fronts. You need all four wires and a ground, IIRC.

However, tacostrk may have a point that with the HIFI, you might want to tap into the rears. Since I moved my rear speakers, it would have been a better choice for me. I'm not really sure how it would play with the standard location for the rears. The Bass600 does have a remote volume control, so you can compensate for balance issues.

Looks like that is the right swap for the standard non-HIFI. There is no point in doing it with the HIFI.

Apologies - this should go over in the x9331 swap thread. I'm posting it there now.

So i'm confused...couldn't I tie into those same wires just before the Amp in the boot...so there is less wiring going on if i'm putting a sub in the boot? Or is the best bet to still wire directly to that connector at the front of the cabin?

Yes, I just got finished reading a VERY lengthy thread that described in detail how to do this. Infortunately, I forgot to bookmark it. However, I did snag all the pretinet info. and placed it into a Word doc. Send me your email address and I'll be happy to give you a copy of the doc...

That would be the X10266 connector at the amp. According to the wiring diagram, it's on the other end of the wires that leave X9331. I don't know the pin out on it, but it would look like you could save the time of running the wire back from X9331 by tapping in at the amp.

Make it a PDF and post it.

Yeah because even if I decide to get a slim sub and mount it under the passenger seat, it'd still probably be easier to run the wires from the AMP in the boot versus from the driver side footwell.

I got the SSL Soundstorm USS8 version of this on Amazon for $122.14 with free shipping. However - since last week - it's gone up to $141. Very strange...
