iPod adaptor hissing

I installed the factory Ipod adaptor on my wifes 2005 MIni and everthing worked fine. The only problem I have is that there is a very noticable hissing noise that can be heard when listening to the Ipod. I also installed an Ipod IRide dock. Anyone have an idea what is causing the noise? The music sounds clear when listening to the Ipod with earphones. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try testing without the dock to see if the noise changes.

Found the problem

I had to turn the trebble on the stereo all the way down in Ipod mode. The hissing was eliminated. Somehow, the music still sounds good, as if the trebble were still on. I guess the sound quality is coming from the Ipod and not the stereo? I had already checked the Ipod settings and turned the EQ off. I thought that would eliminate any sound compatibility problems. Maybe one of you Ipod guru's can tell me how that works.

I also found out that the air conditioning makes a slight hissing sound when running. Is that normal? I probobly wouldn't have noticed it, but the hissing from the air combined with the hissing from the Ipod made it even more pronounced.

Disconnecting the I-Ride docking station did not make a difference. I'm glad because it is a nice feature. My wife just opens up the glove box and the Ipod plugs right in. Pops right out too. Very fast, very convenient and you can still use the stereo and steering wheel controls.

Anyway, the Ipod hissing was cured. I still welcome comments from those of you who have had the same problem.

Thanks

Oops, problem still exists

After a test drive, the hissing noise still persists, although it is not as noticable with the trebble turned off. But the sound quality does suffer, so the problem still exists. Also, hissing can still be heard when the engine is turned off. The hissing gets louder when I turn up the trebble. Doesn't matter what songs are playing. I tried several settings on the Ipod and nothing worked. Anyone have any ideas?

There's a possible problem with the adapter itself, see if you can have it exchanged with MINI.
