I have trying to find this out for about a month and I can't seem to find it. I need to know who makes the navigation system thats intergrated into the mini. I want to know who does hardware and software. I can't seem to find any specs on the NAV system. I would like to know more about it before I buy my car with it you know?

The 1st gen MINI's MKIII/MKIV system is heavily based upon the VDO Dayton MS-5700 model (with 7" monitor). However, MINI changed/updated the nav system in the 2nd gen MINI's to be more like the new BMW Professional systems. From best I can tell, it's still made by Siemens VDO.

While the BMW/MINI nav system is not the most intuitive to use (nor the most feature complete), it is one of the best routing nav systems I've ever used. It even routes better than many of the handheld units like the Garmin nuvi, TomTom One, etc. I use a nuvi side-by-side with my MINI's built-in nav system all the time and there's no question that when you're really in a pinch (i.e. when you're lost in unfamiliar territory), the OEM system works better.
