Update Nav Firmware / Maps

Does anyone know how to update my maps / firmware? I have an '03, and it looks like its the MK3, CD based system under my passanger seat.

I've read from other sites that the firmware can only be updated on the MK4 and above. True?

Where can I find maps (cheaper than what the dealer wants)?

The CD I have is " North Central, Digital Road Map 3 (2003-2).

My firmware is SW 3-1/63

Thanks,

NavTech has a lock on that market - may be able to find one on ebay though...

Not True....

Firmware can be updated but you are running the latest version for that model and developments has stopped there. I suspect the MK4 develpoment will end soon as well since the new MINI has a whole different unit.

As for maps, be careful about buying on ebay as some people have been ripped off with bad or copied maps disks. Best just to get them from a source. The Garmin maps will propbably not work as the BMW is pretty specific.

Is it difficult or costly to swap out a MK3 with a MK4?

Straight swap!

Either Ebay or a junk yard might be able to provide the unit.

Anyone know if the seats have to come out? Also, I seached ebay, and found nothing close...Im guessing better luck in a junk yard. Anyone know how much I'll pay for this thing?
