Custom enclosure pricing

I went and got a quote for a custom fiberglass enclosure for a single driver the other day. I've never looked for a 'custom' enclosure, but now I have a car that I would like something nice and that looks as though it's suppossed to be there. I'm not sure if the price is reasonable, I was quoted ~500 for a fiberglass enclosure, the guy said a full day, maybe day and a half, He was saying custom rate was 55 an hour. Whats the going rate in other places?, he said normal shop time was 45 an hour, this place is pretty reputable, not a big box store by any means, but def a chain. I looked through some pictures of his work and it looks nice. If you add up a days work at 55 he's making a little more than quoted, and if he takes more time obviously loses some. Any thoughts on that?? I'll be looking at another shop thats been recommended to see if they're close or not.

What will be the finish on the enclosure? Is it going to be sanded smooth, primed/sealed and painted? Or will it be covered with carpet, sprayable bedliner material, or something else? That can make a big difference in how long it takes to make the enclosure.

For doing all of the measuring, fitting, making the mold, laying up the fiberglas, sanding and smoothing, $500 frankly sounds like a bargain to me, even if it's just covered with carpet. If they're going to put an automotive-quality paint on it (perhaps colour-matched to your car's paint?), $500 is an absolute steal.

It's suppossed to be in 'as close as possible color' carpet. Gonna check the other place on the way home tomorrow if time allows

For a one off custom enclosure $500 is a reasonable price. He's going to have about $75-100 of amterials into it plus time and labor.

The place I stopped by last night came in at 550, but his shop and pictures looked a lot nicer and clean, which counts in my book. Time to set aside some cash and pick out some gear

Im not sure where you are geographically but im in the Atlanta area and have some very major work done to my car for the NOPI show and the pricing you quoted based on what im doing seems to be very fair. Expecailly if any paint is figured into that price.
