Volume level increases with speed

Can anyone tell me how to get my HK stereo volume to automaticly increase and decrease with speed? I think the HK foldout is not a good manual.

My MA told me it wasn't an option on the US model, he was surprised when we went for a drive and it auto adjusted the sound level.

I'm thinking the head unit for the HK is the same as the standard. If so then try this. Press and hold the button with the musical note(the one that controls bass, treble and so on). Once held for a few seconds, options will appear. Press the button once more to enter the option for "Speed Vol". Use the volume **** to change it from 1 to 6. 1 being basically off and 6 being the most range in volume. Press the button several more times to exit the options and you should be ready to go.

This is not an option with HK and has nothing to do with the market you are in.... The HK amp will "automatically" adjust it a little but it is not that much.

There is no special HU for the HK system.

Head unit is the same whether H/K or not.
Auto volume adjust does not work with the H/K. That tidbit may be in the fine print somewhere, but I don't recall ever seeing it.

You are not the first to have this thought.

Thanks for those answers. You really don't get much of a maunal with the HK, just that quick foldout graphic thing. Have any of you come across a real manual for the HK?

The documentation for the H/K system is beyond ****-poor. I've been searching around for awhile for solid documentation and have produced absolutely nothing worthy of celebration.

The reason the H/K doesn't provide any volume/speed adjustment like the non-H/K is because since it is a completely different amp, the H/K system uses a more complex speed algorithm to slowly adjust the volume dependent on your speed. Instead of increasing the volume in steps, it increases it in a more logarithmic way.

It's happening, but since the change is so smooth your ears are less likely to notice the change.

I've been wondering... I have the H/K in my 04 MCS. Instead of having the "speed-volume" option, the NAVI option shows up....nut I don't have the NAVI.... guy I bought it from was original owner, and never had NAVI.... is this how it is supposed to be, or should I have speed-volume option?

Mine is the same way. The manual (I've got an '03) says it should have the speed option, but it's not there. I also swear I remember it adjusting itself when I first got the car, but can't notice it much anymore.

I ran across this while looking for "more" information on the HK. He details the options/features available and how sound is processed in the MINI. May be of some help for all. One point of interest is when shutting down, the HK system will go back to a low volume which he calls a "wife saver" and took a while for him to figure out the concept.

Is anyone else having a problem with "not" being able to change volume manually after reaching 5 mph? It is almost like the doors automatically locking, locks my volume too.

For starters, don't set your bass or treble above dead center. If you do, the H/K lowers the maximum volume. Try setting them both dead on middle and I think you'll find that there's a bit more volume available.

It depends on your preferences. The H/K was never intended to be a mindblowingly loud system... but for clarity and definition, it's excellent value at only $500.

Of course that didn't stop me from wanting to replace it, since I want both clarity and volume!

I'll try this "starter" as I was sure this wasn't a problem at the beginning. But it's close to defeating the purpose. Bass is my deal and your answer could be on with my changing all.

As for maximum volume....it has more than the neighbors down the street would want to hear. But can only increase when first starting or no engine running.

I need to head over to the Dice thread too. Some curiosity if adding the unit also cuts sound options.

Try lowering the treble below dead center instead of increasing the bass.

The DICE effectively replaces the CD changer. So the options you won't be able to have are the CD changer (of course) and the OEM iPod adapter (naturally... but why would you want it when the DICE is far superior?).

hahaha!! see! you can't duplicate the power of independent
speaker systems on a small door/wall speaker.
