Help - iPod adapter installation problem

To make a long story short, basically my boyfriend installed the MINI ipod
adapter into my 06 MINI using the '04 (wrong) instructions, which involve cutting the blue/violet #16 wire harness connector off.

The ipod adapter and radio work, but now my radio does not turn off when I turn the car off and I can turn the radio on and off even when my key is not in the car. The radio also turns itself off every 15/20 mins.

He thinks that the above problem is due to cutting the blue/violet #16 wire as that the 06 instructions do not involve doing this. Does anyone know where to get a new wire harness connector or the best way to fix this problem? And also what is the #16 wire?

Here is one of the wire harness connector that was cut off:

The insturctions he used are from here:

It is normal that you can turn the radio on and off even with no key in the ignition. In this case the radio will turn itself off after about 20 minutes (then you can turn it on again). Of course, if the ignition is on, the radio should not turn itself off -- is that what you are saying is happening?

The new vs. old instructions do not apply to the model year of the car. They apply to whether you have the new or old version of the iPod adapter. In other words, if you have the old adapter, you use the old instructions no matter the year of the car. I don't think it is possible to complete the old instructions using the new kit because the parts are different. Are you sure you don't have the old kit?

You can find the new instructions here: http://new.minimania.com/Downloads.cfm. Check the part number of your kit against the new and old instructions, and match the listed parts.

The radio cutting out after 15 min or so has to do with the radio running on Aux power rather than mains. It is doing what it is designed to do as it think that the car is off and it is trying to save battery juice.

He definetly got the wiring wrong, but it can be fixed. As RKW pointed out, get the proper instructions and take your time.
