Help!

Someone please e-mail me the latest version of Cartune. I got one from Volker in early January but it's buggy. It will not complete the loading of the file. It completes the load but before it finishes I get an error that says "Start Routine 02 Negative Response". Needless to say my car is DOA since the tuner file did not complete.
I've got the tuner file and keycode. I just need the Cartune.
I've sent Volker an e-mail to for a new cartune, but I'm hoping someone can get it to me sooner.
It's not the tuner file because my last regular MTH file did the same thing. Somehow I got lucky and was able to get around this error. No such luck this time.

So I just wasted another 2 hours trying to get this to work. I've tried 2 different laptops with 2 different operating systems. I've shut down just about every process running and still no success.
When I can get the file to load I get the same error: startRoutine_02_Negative_Response
The load process goes to the end and about 30 seconds later the error pops up.
I've also tried a Cartune version I received from someone else. I'm at a loss.
I sent Volker an e-mail, but haven't heard anything back yet.
I was an MTH early adopter and I like the performance, but this Cartune switch in '06 has been nothing but trouble.
Anybody have any ideas I could try until I hear back from MTH? My car is DOA.

I'm just throwing mud on the wall here and we'll see how much of it sticks.

1. Uninstall/reinstall drivers for MTH cable. I don't know what it's called in Device Manager.
2. Turn off every stinking non-essential OS process.
3. Turn off anything that is wireless (Wi-Fi, blue tooth, etc.)
4. Make sure all cell phones, radios or microwave ovens, etc. are no where near the car.
5. Make sure all non-essential systems on the car are turned off (air conditioning, heating, fans, radio, bluetooth, defroster, heated seats, etc.)
6. Try to download what is on the cars computer and send that to MTH for analysis.
7. Have you communicated with MTH-USA?
8. Have you tried loading your original file?
9. Tow it into a MINI dealer and have them reprogram the ECU.

Again, this is all just checking the basics. Hope Volker gets back to you asap with a solution. Good luck and we'll keep checking back in to get an update on your situation. Stay strong!

Hi,

Im running the same Cartune which i have sent you with no problems at all. Are you running any programs in the background ? anti-virus firewalls? etc etc.

Also make sure all electronics in the MINI are turned off as this can cause problems, even iff the interior light is on , it can cause shutdowns etc etc.

If you try and upload your standard file are you still getting problems ?

If and when you get the error message. Shut down cartune and turn off ignition until you hear a click from the dashboard. Then start the process all over again from fresh.

Hope this helps

Si

First I'd like to thank everyone who helped me out over the past two days while trying to get this to work. It really shows how this community comes together.

Here's my update. I was trying to load the tuner file, my original org file, and a previous mth map.
The laptop I've been using for my uploads since last year just refuses to work. I get a variety of errors that don't let me do anything.
I configured my new laptop to run Cartune and was loading the tuner file and the previous mth map. Yes I turned of all devices and shut down just about every non-system process. This is where I was consistently getting the "startRoutine...' error. This morning I tried to load the org file and it finally worked. I then tempted fate and tried to load an earlier mth file that I know worked previously and that worked as well.
So the only thing I can get it down to is that the tuner file and the earlier mth file are corrupt. I'll be sending it back to Volker to get it checked out.
Thanks again to everyone. I'll post an update when I get the new tuner file.

Glad you found out what was causing your problems. Ive been using a new email server and that been making a few corrupt files come through, but ive gone back to MSN now and all is 110% ok.

Hey guys - I sent an email to Volker asking for a this-year version of CARTUNE, but he's asking for a *.mth file, which I never got 'cuz I only purchased it and never got around to buying a cable and using it. Can someone help me out?

TIA!

Well I just sent off my stock files to Volker. I included some basic but specific instructions how to change my file so it's useful for me with the turbo project. The main concern is for the injector duty cycles to be trimmed down to accomidate my 560cc/min injectors, which are too big to compensate for with the piggyback. I also wrote how to change the ignition mapping; I'm not interested in any "cranked up" ignition that I hear about with the normal canned "tuner file".

Wish me luck! [and skill]
Ryan

good luck Ryan. That sounds like a pretty cool project. just to let you know, I got an email from Volker this morning and he said they are super swamped, so turnaround time for the new files may not be as expect. At least that's been the case for me. let us know how it works out.

Thanks for the tip Mike. It sounds like MTH's workload is starting to exceed their manpower!

Update: Volker is trying to convince me that the stock injectors are fine for my application, LOL ROFLMAO! So far we've swapped a bunch of emails, but haven't made much headway as he's being reluctant to accept that I actually know what I'm doing, grrr.

What I found out however, is that it's a simple multiplier byte that adjusts injector sizing for all the fueling strategy, super cool and easy.

yeah, you don't exactly have a "standard" MTH application, so I could understand why they are being a little cautious. but stock injectors.....um....I don't think so. Hopefully they'll come around for you.

I can understand their cautiousness to a point. I first sent an email to Volker over a year ago asking if he could/would do a custom file, and back then he said it'd be no problem. I'm guessing he doesn't remember that early corespondence. Volker initially asked what I was trying to get from his file. It's still very simple; to adjust the fueling for larger injectors. I can use the UNIchip to adjust the rest. I am asking Volker to tweak the redline and DSC intervention, but that's all so far. Him trying to tell me that I'm not out of injector is a bit absurd given he hasn't asked for any particulars of my setup that would lead him to that conclusion. Nevertheless, MTH is still the best solution, and they're willing to do it, so I'll have to take the goofy questions from them with the territory of doing "the most stock-esque mapping yet" from them, lol.
