Not Quite What I Was Expecting

I just dyno'd my 2003 Cooper (non-S) today and got a mere 108.3hp at the wheels w/ max torque @ 103.3ft.-lb. That's with a BMP intake, Milltek Header, Magnaflow Cat-back, MTH "Tuner" file, Red Line 10w30 and 91 octane fuel. From some of the other dyno charts I've seen here on NAM, I was expecting to see higher numbers. In any case, I will say that ALL the mods I've done have improved the "driving experience/fun factor". It's just a street MINI, so the "seat-o'-the-pants dyno" is more important to me. See my gallery for full list of mods.

Interesting

Is your "Tuner" file "mapped" for your current list of mods?

Dont let that discourage you. The dyno is a mean mean man, who often robs us of what we expect.

I won't deny that I was a little bummed out by my numbers, but the fact remains that the car is no less fun to drive now than before the dyno shot me down. However... I've been inspired and have just emailed my tuner file to Volker for a 93 octane & 100 octane updates. When I get those, I'll dyno again & see what happens;-)

I see your post shows you being located in So Cal, so where are you getting (or planning to get) your 93 and/or 100 octane fuel? (I'm in Long Beach, so I'm interested in alternatives to remedy the potential detonation problems that several other native sons of the golden west have discovered with tuning their MCS). Thanks.

You dont have that octane in cali so i would not being using the flash thinking it will improve your power without using the proper gas with it.

Thats a nono.

If the above remark is true, then i would not recommend running a higher octane file , to low octane fuel. This WILL cause "pinging" which is not good for your engine.

Sorry, I haven't been back to this thread in a while. I have been running 100 octane fuel with the 100 octane MTH Tuner File for a month now. I get 100 in Pasadena (Arroyo Prkwy where the 110N ends) and in Fullerton by the airport. Both are Unocal (76) stations. It's unleaded & oxygenated. Been as low as $5.99 and as much as $6.20 a gal. The 100 octane dyno showed minimal improvement on my non-S (+3HP and +3.6ft.-lbs. torque), and even some loss @ 5600RPM. I'll be going back down to the 91 octane Tuner File ASAP.

Yes, we do have 100 octane. I have been running it since 03.14.06.

The above you mention is not true. My tank is filled with 100 octane right now.

Well thats ok then, as long as your running the right octane for the right file your fine. I was just remarking on 1FSTMINI saying 100 wasnt available in your area...obviously is

MTH is only in 91 or 93 i thought.....Your running 100 octane in it everyday? You must be broke.....Your gas is expensive, and i thought we were bad

100 octane cam2 is 5.75 out here

I had Volker make me a 95 octane tuner file and a 100 octane tuner file. My latest gas bill was $433

Volker can have the file tweaked for the octane you specify. I do 91 and 93 octane versions for folks all the time, and 100 octane versions for those that track regularly.

Hi all, I think when you request a file from Germany, they will use their octane rate as standard (RON). In USA and Canada, we use AKI (RON*MON/2), let say when we get a 98 octane file from MTH Germany, it is equal to 93 octane in America. I just get the information from Darren from MTH, who replaced Volker.

Yes, they do a conversion from the RON rating.

First let me say that is the meanest/cheapest DYNO I have ever seen.

I also find the dips in TQ/HP in mid rpm interesting - shouldn't be.

Get yourself to another dyno.
