Alright, flame away: Question re: "Echo is missing..."

Sorry to be a n00b, but I'm at a standstill. I read tradiuz's post elsewhere on this topic:

Cause: Cable is detected, but no response is given on the port.
Solution: You need to plug the cable into the OBD-2 port, make sure it is plugged in, and make sure the car is on.
-Car is on (also tried ACC and engine running).
-Cable is plugged into the OBD-II port.
-Other end of the cable is plugged into the laptop.
-Background apps are off, as is wireless networking.
-OS is XP, fully patched, running on a new VAIO T-series laptop.
-Cartune version is 1.1.16.0.
-OBD-USB 9141 cable procured through MTH.

Common? Something I can do/File I can edit? Port I can enable? I'm a network geek, and am not easily confused by this sort of thing, but clearly there are exceptions... Little help?

First thing to test is to make sure:

Did you install the USB VCP drivers?
Does your adapter show as a virtual com port, and if so what number - check this in your device manager.

Next is to make sure that your MTH software is pointing to the right (COM) port

With regards to the interface, or cable, which interface do you have? If you have the single cable solution (Sensolutions) , does the LED light-up when it is plugged in? What color?

Please note you should not run the car: just power on.

Many thanks for the reply, Martin.

I installed the drivers sent via link by MTH; compared 'em to yours, seem to be latest-greatest.

Left the cable in the car downstairs in my parking garage, can't make it back down just yet, so cannot confirm the COM setting in Device Manager. That's the only thing I didn't check though, so hopefully that's the culprit... will do that post-work today.

Getting a green light on the cable (and yep, Senso OBD-II to USB).

Again, thanks very much!

Also confirm that all wireless networking is off, as well. I had the same errors, then rebooted with wireless networking off, and uploaded fine.

Be sure to go in to your device manager and ensure that you have the right com port selected .....

Anxious to hear if you get it done....where are you located?

Thanks jgb. Yep, wifi is off, but thanks for the suggestions...

I'm in the DC Metro area by the way. Live in Hanover MD, work in DC proper.

That was it... duh... Should've been the first thing I checked. In any case, many thanks, all! Files have been sent to tradiuz!
