Are there any updates? It looks like Romhog's last post here was 8-26. Should we be concerned? Or am I just looking like a fool cuz he's got something really special lined up.

The MINIsota Motoring Society will be heading down there, hopefully with the Iowa group and some others. We haven't set a route yet, but maybe we can hook up somewhere.

Just looked on PKI's website at the construction photos for the ride that were updated in the 8th and it looks like it is still very much under construction with probably at least a few months work left. Has anyone spoken with PKI regarding the opening date and possible passes for MINI's?

Thank you thank you thank you!

I've been so worried about this since Romhog doesn't seem to come here anymore.

I think there are a whole lot of people waiting in the wings to hear about this opening. Anyone working on organizing should be forwarned of a MINI invasion.

It's going to be amazing to see how many MINIs show up - should be a lot more than most other gatherings.

Top of my List, but hope it does not interact with DRAGON MAY 5th!!!!!!

If it happens on the day before , we could kill two birds with on stone!
MINI ride opens, then head south to the DRAGON!

Everyone -

A member in my local club, MINIsota Motoring Society, has stumbled upon a representative at PKI who is in charge of pulling together an event for this ride.

I have a thread started over in our regional forums if you'd like to follow along.

I don't mean to take away from Romhog's efforts in any way, but our info seems a little more solid than what we've had so far with this thread.

IM BACK!!

Ok, for the last 3 weeks I have been getting back in contact with the Woman I spoke to in Oct.
She has not returned my calls (i left 1 message)

I am starting to wonder if she was confused and took up the offer with others and now... won't return my call.
I will give it though this week, and try a few more times.

I dont mind if anyone is taking this idea away from me, I just want it to happen! Post everything you know that is solid as an update to your thread and this one. There are many people that are triggered to get an email when this post is updated. And I prommised many people for the final update here.

I don't believe the ride will open up till June or so, is this correct?

I am still going to contact my PR person there.

According to this article in the Cincinnatti Post, the Italian Job is set to debut Thursday, May 19. That's about 2 weeks after the Dragon, but still close enough together that some people may not be able to do both. It's a non-issue for me. I won't be able to make it to the Dragon, since one of my friends had the nerve to schedule his wedding the Dragon weekend.

I'm all set for any trip to Kings Island though.

Has anyone mentioned that the 18th is the weekend of the F1 Grand Prix in Indy? This would be a serious issues for some people who would very much like to attend both. F1 tickets aren't cheap and many are already paid for... I think if there was no schedule conflict, this PKI event will be HUUUUGE.

Maybe if it was moved one week up or back... that would be very, very nice.

There is another thread on this the the MINI Motoring Club of the Carolinas Regional Forum (Linky) It looks like someone has gotten an answer from PKI regarding a date, June 18th. If this is actually going to happen then, that would be far enough away from the Dragon to let more folks come

I'm wondering if the ride opens the 19th of May, but they are having it's Grand Opening a month later after some of the kinks get worked out (new rides tend to be closed a lot the first few weeks)

That's likely. A new ride will usually have 'soft' openings, where it'll be open here and there to the public to test things out. Often, during these soft openings, all ride elements may not be working, i.e. special effects, etc.

Can't wait though!

I'd love to go too! We'll be in Ohio around the first week of June to pick up my MCS from Classic. It would be so cool if this all worked out!

Wish is was happening earlier. We will be be home early May for our daughter's wedding and won't be able to get back up to the area in June.
We worked at KI for a few years. I did 3 years, wife did 2. Last year was the last. But didn't have the Mini yet so I guess it doesn't matter.
