Wow, April! I didn't even know you were on here!

I'm really saddened and sickened by all this.

Thanks L.MINI. I'm not on here often, I spend most of my time on MINI2. But I come over to MCO to check the events forums regularly.

The saddest thing is that hello, they are driving a car that was basically unchanged for over 20 years, now someone changes it and they have a hissy fit? What other thing (cars, music, type of movie, snack food, ANYTHING) has changed so little in it's history.

Also, gee, maybe there is a reason that they don't make Minis anymore... granted, I'd love to have a Mini, but you'd see me in my MINI much MUCH more often...

As a owner of a 1974 "older" mini i can only apologize for any snobby older mini owners. IMHO i welcome ANY mini, old-new whatever! i am proud that someone picked up the mini flag and ran with it, and that there is a new one, it only would serve to help the old ones! as an owner of several older brit cars, i could only wish my old one was built to such high standards. i would hope that any older mini owner would take heart and mentor the enthusiasm of a whole new generation of mini owners, because it will be them that may want to uphold the mini flag, and continue the intrest, and pehaps even have one of each or such.

I'd slap the organizer(s) up side the head for allowing such juveniles to participate. We at "michiganmini.com" (mostly new) and "fudmo.com" (mostly old) have no patience for such idiots. You're always welcome here. Heck, we even welcome Neon owners who just admire Minis to go on a rally with us. Sorry for your troubles and better luck next time

thejunkman and I and our wives went to MiniMeetWest in Vancouver BC this summer and had a great time. There were about a dozen new MINIs and well over 100 classic Minis. People were genuinely friendly, and with the exception of one comment from an old man at the car show, did not hear a negative word. If it weren't so far away we would go to http://minimeet2004.com/

my experience was great.

Our small MINI club tries to get out and be present at our local All British Sports car events and BMW car club events during the year. We usually show up with about 5 to 7 MINIs both MC and MCS. Often the dealer comes along with a MINI or 2. Usually we are well received and so far there have been no problems that we know about.

At each event I am careful to introduce myself to the organizers or sponsors and to thank them for the event at the end of the day. I say hello to many of the classic car owners and tell them how I like their cars or what I like best about each one. I invite questions about the MINIs when people look like they have something to ask.

If I were the person who had dumped the oil under the MINIs then I would be worried about coming back to find that my classic mini was turned upside down onto it's roof in a pool of motor oil.

In my area we have very few classic minis and we would like to see more. There is little involvement yet but our MINI club is getting to more and more events. Hopefully we will be invited back and to other car rallys.

Well, here in Alabama, the MINI's and Mini's get along great. Yesterday we had our first really large event with over 25 miniscule cars in attendance.

Must be the Southern hospitality that allows us to get along so well!

We had a few issues with the classics last year at Spring Thing in Florida. Lots of talking under their breath and odd looks. Not by all but by some. But we New MINI owners stuck together and had a good time. No gonna let them spoil our good time. This next Spring thing is being planned and we are ALL going again and I bet there will be more New MINIs then classics.

As Southwind25 mentioned, I believe that the "new" MINIs will generate interest in the Classic Minis. It will help to keep the Classic Minis going strong.

Sorry to hear of your experience.

Don't let the turkeys get you down.

Enjoy your ride and soar with the eagles.

Happy Motoring!

One of the best aspects of a car club is meeting and socializing with fellow enthusiasts. It's a shame that some people miss the point.

The other thing that struck me was the volume of oil that was dumped. It looked like a good 1/2 quart in the picture. Multiply that by several MINI victims and you have a lot of oil going into a nearby storm drain or heaven forbid, waterway. If this was on private property I'm sure that the owner would not welcome back any car club. What a jerk.

I think the situation's improving a bit. At Eurofest, new and old were parked side by side. The classic owners I chatted with there were all great. So many of the new and old owners are getting along I feel the few troublesome individuals will eventually accept the situation, or at least learn to curb their inner resentments.

It is, after all, not about the cars, but about being enthusiasts!
