MINIs in the Mountains!
MINIs in the Mountains!
The first annual MINIs in the Mountains (MITM) will take place Aug. 10-13, 2006 at Copper Mountain Ski Resort in beautiful Colorado! The resort, at an altitude of 9770 ft, is about 75 miles west of Denver on Interstate 70. MITM will feature 10 rides up, down and over the mountains -- nothing but twisties and altitude! Drive to the top of the highest paved highway in North America (climb 7000 ft in 28 miles to 14,264 ft). In addition, a variety of social, vendor and driving events are planned for the entire family.
The Denver, Colorado area MINI Cooper club MINI5280.org (as in 5280 ft or 1 mile high) is the sponsoring MINI club, along with local and national vendors. Many MINI and non-MINI (are there any?) summer activity choices are available for the whole family, such as mountain & road biking, hiking, chairlift rides, go-carts, river rafting, fly-fishing, and many others in nearby mountain towns.
Mark your calendar: MITM (Coopers @ Copper) August 10-13 in the Colorado mountains. Watch this thread and North American Motoring for updates and registration information.

Glad to see the post!!
In the next few days, watch NAM and this Forum for more and more announcements regarding the events within this event...
We have designed 10 rides already for you to choose from, including "The highest paved road in North America" (Mt. Evans) and routes than include Independence Pass, Rabbit Ears Pass, Hoosier Pass, Loveland Pass, Vail Pass and many, many more.
Plan your time off now...and maybe add a day or two before or after!! Copper Mountain is an ideal vacation spot for the family, there is sooo much to do.

World's Biggest Pulley Party
After a discussion with Randy Webb of WEBB Motorsports, he says he is ready to deliver the
"World's Largest Pulley Party" at the MitM 2006 event at Copper Mountain, Colorado.
Randy has committed to a 51 hour "Pulley-a-thon" beginning at 9 am Friday thru NOON on Sunday. He will do a pulley hourly for 51 hours, no rest included if that is what it takes.
Watch our NAM event postings and calendar for signup for this historic event! And just imagine what Randy will smell like after that....

I just joined 5280 and was looking forward to Mini's in the Mountains until I looked at the calendar and discovered you set it up the same weekend as the Denver Grand Prix! Bummer! I think I will be missing out on Mini's in the mountains this year and hope it doesn't conflict next year!

Thank you for posting, and welcome to MINI5280!
We recognize that our event may not work for everyone, but the advantage we have is that we span parts of 4 days and we think this may give you a shot. A few things that we had to take into consideration in our choice of dates were:
Thanks, see you there. Or post your questions. We will answer them.

- Copper Mtn could not accomodate us on every date. Some dates were booked
- There are bike races in Summit County (specifically at Copper) the weekend before. We felt we did not want to mix it up or take the chance of doing so
- We wanted a summer event but before school starts back. We got that.
- The way the GP schedule shakes out it is possible for you to enjoy many of our good rides, our Welcome Dinner, Farewell Dinner and more and still make the race, since it is on Sunday. Our event begins Thursday night with rides then, Friday night, Saturday night, etc. Since the vintage race at GPDenver is at 5 pm Saturday, you can still get some good rides in prior.
Thanks, see you there. Or post your questions. We will answer them.

Check your Rocky Mountain News yesterday!
In the insert booklet entitled "Summer Escapes 2006" on page 6S Copper Mountain Resort has their ad entitled:
"So what do you do around here when the snow melts, besides pout?"
The answer of course is....August 10-13...MINIs in the Mountains!
Check it out. Be there. And if you have NOT signed up, please do so. Our event is a mere 90 days away and we do need your registration so we can make our final plans.
See you there!

Now why did you have to go and do that? I really feel like I am missing out on something. Oh well.....It won't be too long now. I am going camping this weekend so I will enjoy myself. Even if it is at a much lower elevation.
See ya soon.

When you get back from camping...
When you get back from camping, here are a few photos of my trip with Jonathan to the top of Mt Evans and me (by myself) to the top of Independence Pass -- both on opening day, as they're closed in Winter. Plenty of snow to replenish the cooler!

By the way, Zyamfyer, you should see this site, PaperCars.net where you can print paper models (cut-outs) of various cars, including the MINI and classic Mini. They even have the teardrop trailer!

Oh, this is going to be good. 10 drives in four days in that part of Colorado. I must find a way to make it back to Colorado for that.
