MT Evans May 25 2012
On the day before opening, CDOT announced (and it was on their website) that the Mt Evans road would be opening at noon instead of the usual 7 AM. No explanation. Mt Evans website still showed 7 am. Rumor had it that it was not to be opened all the way to the top (at noon). Kind of late to notify all MINIs. We proceeded with our plans and it was closed when we arrived. We drove to Idaho Spgs for a leisurely breakfast. We then went to Georgetown, waited, then did Guanella Pass. After that Chris, Eileen and I went back to Mt Evans and drove to the top. More traffic at that time compared to previous years at 7 AM. We heard later that it may have opened around 9 AM. My total mileage for the day was about 210. That's what happened.
Cool fog shots! Pretty rare on our drives, probably a good thing Mt. Evans was closed. Going up, up, up with no guardrails and limited visibility would've been one hairy ride..
Thanks for the photos Bahman, great job..
And thanks to the organizers and ride leader Pauhana. Never a dull drive with this group..

Nice pictures, as much as I don't really care for roads without guard rails I am going to have to do MT Evans one of these days.
Pike Peak for sure, but at the tail of the pack, so I can braille it.
