Help! R53 Overheating Issue
Help! R53 Overheating Issue
Hello, I have a 2005 MCS with 27,000 miles on, had been running great until last week ... driving on C470 and noticed temp gauge hitting RED zone ...
Coolant was empty upon inspection ... filled to MAX on Coolant reservoir ... was able to drive for less than a mile, then temp starts to heat up again ... before hitting the red line, I hear something clicking (a cooling fan?) but didnt turn anything on ...
I am wondering if someone on this thread had experienced similar overheating problem and what did you do? How to troubleshoot? How much for the repair? and where for the repair (Schomp? or any recommendations?).
Thanks in advance for any advice! Miniko

Once the cooling system has been run low enough to almost overheat, the system will need to be bleed to get the trapped air out....an airbubble can cause overheating...
The fact the coolant is missing means it went somewhere....on a r53, it is often lost as previouslt stated by way of a cracked tank, thermostat gasket, or the usual suspects...hoseor radiator leakage(where the plastic sides of the rad is crimped to the metal is becoming more common as these cars age...especially if the system has not been properly matained).

You should also check your Power Steering Cooling Fan. If it is not functioning you will overheat quickly.
And of course what the others have said. The reservoir and thermostat housing are known to be problematic.
