windshield

Well this is my third year with my cooper s and i guess Ive been lucky. Yesterday coming home from Boulder to Aurora a small pebble hit my windshield and made a small dime size dent, but no crack. I know this has happened to a few of you, and was wondering where is a good place to get this fixed.
Thanks,
Jorge

I always use Elite Autoglass. They fix it for free and most of the time I do not see them billing my insurance either, even though the insurance covers it for free as they think it is cheaper then replacing a windshield.

So last fall while driving home from getting my windshield replaced (2nd time) at Ralph Schomp, I get a chip (down low middle of the glass between the wipers). Pulled into the first parking lot crack repairer I saw and had it fixed on the spot. He called it into insurance and I didn't pay a dime. It has held up even over winter so I'm pleased with the repair.

One quick note, if you use RainX on your windshield, tell the chip repair person as they have to strip that off to fix the crack. RainX makes the resins unable to bond. Elite told me that.

Well the chip repair guy drilled through the first layer of glass to get to the middle of the laminate. I don't use RainX but I really doubt it could get there. I do use Epic on the glass though.

The Elite guy just said that it can soak in if you use it after the chip happens. If you use it before, then it can be cleaned off and be ok, just do not do anything to the windshield after the chip happens, get it fixed right away. Try to keep it dry. This is what they told me, they even gave me a little round "patch" sort of a windshield bandaid.

Just had Elite auto glass replace my windshield ('05 MCS). They accidentally cracked the driver-side A-pillar black plastic piece. They pointed it out to me and immediately ordered a new part. A few days later I came back and they replaced it quickly at no cost to me or my insurance. I like Elite and have used them for many windshields on several cars and trucks over the years.

The message from this thread: "chip happens" and the A-pillar plastic covers are a bit fragile.
