My warranty expires at 36,000 miles, and I currently have 35,012 miles on my 07 MCS. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to extend the warranty? Since buying the mini I have not had any major problems with the car. (knock on wood). Have any of you extended your warranty? Is it worth it?

For me it's worth the piece of mind that it brings.

 

I don't know what an extended warranty costs but a high pressure fuel pump on a MCS runs over $1,700 and there have been a few problems on MNI's and BMW's with these direct injection engines.

My MINI is only 7 months old but I plan on checking into the cost of an extended waranty as mine nears the end. To me the key will be cost and whether the extended warranty is offered through BMW or some third party. If you buy one from a third party and they go belly up you are up the creek without a paddle.

Are you sure the warranty expires at 36,000 miles or is it the free maintenance that ends? The '09 MINI's warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles. Was it shorter in 2007? The free maintenance runs out at 3 years or 36,000 miles.

 

Jorge - there is a difference between extended warranty and extended maintenance. You have warranty coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles. Maintenance coverage ends after 3 years or 36,000 miles.
Having said that I bought the extended maintenance for around $1300 and I plan on buying the extended warranty as soon as I can afford it (I'm at 41 months and 51,000 miles). I think it costs around $2700 depending on how long a term you go for. At Schomp the extended warranty is through GE and is reportedly hassle-free.
