North-South

Chuck proposed a North and South (as well as Denver) club meetings in the April newsletter. The drive time from the Springs up North and back is the main reason I rarely attend these meetings. So I like the idea of a "reigonal"
meeting. I know I would attend these monthly "sub club" meetings if it were in the Springs area.

How many members who hail from South of Denver like this senario? North of Denver people? Please post thoughts on this and see if we can help Chuck keep the MINI5280 from dilution.

Bryan.

Not really belonging to the north or south (Longmont)....

What if breakfast or lunch meetings were scheduled one weekend a month with a drive following immediately after the meeting? Then there is something to look forward to after the meeting instead of rushing to get home afterwards.
I don't wanna separate into north or south meetings...but I don't like fighting weekday traffic either. Could this idea help keep us as one?

As a Northerner I am torn on this one. It is really is hard for me to make it to meetings in Denver right now. In the future, as my kids get older, this may change.

I am also doubtful that there is enough interest up north to maintain much support. I may be wrong here, so if other people up north think different I'm interesting in hearing so. My 2 pennies worth.

I also like what Rudebox said about weekend meetings. That would probably make it possible for us to attend more of them.

NORTHERN COLORADO MINIS April 21 @ Tortilla Marissas http://tortillamarissas.com/ in Fort Collins, America @ 7:03 PM.

We had a 700% increase in attendance at the February meeting (March was canceled due to spring break conflicts), so I hope we can continue the meetings w/ more Mini owners this month.

This is the kind of input I was hoping for. Thanks Bryan for posting and thanks for the comments and suggestions. I will keep an eye on the responses.
I kind of like the weekend breakfast idea myself. This Saturday, 4:30 AM - Rich & Teena's house? I like eggs and waffles.

From an-nuth-tha Suth-un-nah... , I never minded the drive to Denver area monthly but love the ideas presented above!

miniconcarne & minibeeh:
We could organize a breakfast tailgate party in the Garden of the Gods park some Saturday morning. Cook some bacon & eggs on a grill in a picnic area.....Cowboy Coffee boiling on the fire pit.... I doubt there would be any crowds. Drive thru the Garden up to minibeeh's Castle for cinamon rolls donuts....more coffee.... On into Pine jctn for biskets & gravy....

(wait, that's why I'm on a diet...)

Sorry, Honey Nut Cheerios is the only thing on the breakfast menu in my house.

Another breakfast meeting location (or anytime of the day idea)...Johnson's Corner Restaurant, Bakery & Truck Stop off of I-25 & Johnstown exit...they have "World Famous" cinnamon rolls and boy-oh-boy are they delicious!

After reading the newsletter and the commentary, it would be great to have more people at our meetings as well as coverage from north, south and central.

I like the idea of Saturday breakfast/brunch meetings, that way a long drive home after a long day at work or play is not a factor.

Having an organized drive with like minded folks after a meeting is a fine idea.

I'm proposing a thought along these lines, each month we have a Saturday meeting, say at 10AM, First month North, Second month South, Third Month Central with all member participation of folks who can make that location. These would be a more social gathering with some club business.

The club officers and interested parties should meet monthly or every other month via a conference call or in person to discuss club hots spots/issues.

As more intense planning is needed (MITM, big MINI drives) people can meet as needed (hey, your already doing it, I'm just pointing out the obvious).

This is more a ramble, comments?

Bryan, thanks for getting this going, Chuck it's good you brought it up in the newsletter.

Btw, my opinion of the Tuesday evening meetings is they have been great social gatherings, but for the most part the club business portion has been lost in the noise.

I enjoy seeing folks, sometimes good food and driving my MINI to the meetings, but I really enjoy driving during the day versus at night.

(Now that was an older MINI owner thought).

Chuck, Don, you are welcome, I'm glad this is getting responses.

I like your idea Don, rotating meeting locations, we can terrorize brunch places up and down the Front Range!

Mike, are you still in limbo? Cook-out would be cool, I think I can do better with this than controll arm bushings.

Teena, I love Honey Nut Cherrios! But can we make it 5:30 am? It's a two hour drive at least from here.

By the way, I am really hoping to attend this month's meeting, sounds like a great venue!

I like the fact that meeting places are still variable and now meeting times may be adjusted to different days (Saturday AM vs. Tuesday evening), at least for the summer. This is in keeping with MINI5280 tradition. You're correct Don, the majority of club business is conducted via email (24x7), thanks to the interweb. And conference calls too.

Being an early AM person, I like the idea of Saturday (or Sunday) breakfast meetings at different locations -- the earlier the better (sorry Vicki). We should still try to hit the North, South, East and West regions, as we tend to do with the Tues. meetings. I hope that the Sat. restaurant (or picnic) locations chosen have a "scenic route" element (or requirement) so that getting there (or returning) is half the fun. Also, we won't have to compete with sports bars' TV audio volume. Some breakfast places, though, tend to get very crowded after 9 AM, so we'll have to find places with enough room, even outdoors.

I realize that every day is bound to conflict with some schedules, but is Sunday a viable day to consider or should it be avoided? Breakfast places (the good ones) get hammered on Sundays, except at the crack of opening time.

Keep in mind that some of our regular events may fall on a weekend that happens to be our meeting weekend, so we may have to adjust the meeting date accordingly. I think we should try the Saturday AM meeting method for a few months, beginning with the May meeting and see how it's received.

And you know, the Breakfast King

has hosted many a MINI5280 GTG before, and open all the time. Centrally located, broad menu, and recognized by 5280 Magazine for, uh, quality fare.

Why not? Just be prepared for more than one monthly meeting. Because there are lots of us who would like to share our favorite dive with our friends.

Start taking names....

Doing the "Limbo"

I am home in C/S every other weekend as a norm now. Easter wkend is an exception, staying in Tulsa for son's wedding.

My next time home is April 24 - 27. Clint w/ Defenders of Speed (DoS) will be doing an R-56 Laminova Intercooler install on Dennis Shepard's car in my garage in Colo. Springs on that Friday (4-24-09).

Anyone is welcome to come & watch, drink coffee, etc.
