Meet me on Mt. Evans!
Please remember that this Friday, May 23rd is the opening of Mt. Evans road, and MINI5280 is going uip there again!
Details are posted in the MINI5280 Calendar, linked at the top of this page. But for starters, we leave from the NE Corner of I-70 and Morrison Rd. (Stegosaurus Lot) at 6:30. Back mid-afternoon after lunch in Idaho Springs.
Please dress warm. It is usually chily and windy up there. Gloves help.
Call me in the AM if necessary, otherwise, you can sign up in the MINI5280 Calendar.

So, I am wondering the same thing... Does the below mean that we will only get to the lake? It says at least to the lake, but you've got to go to the top! Do you know any more than the web?

May 23, 2008 - The Mount Evans Road will OPEN this Friday for the Season!!!
The Mount Evans Scenic Byway (road) will open this Friday at least to Summit Lake. It should only be a few days until the road will be open to the summit. When it is open to the top, we will post it here. The road will remain open 24/7, weather permitting, until September 2, 2008 (after Labor Day). On September 2nd, the top five miles above Summit lake will be close. The lower 10 miles will be close sometime during September by weather or October 1, 2008. Enjoy Mount Evans.

You are correct
Looks open only part way. That means that:
Jonathan
- They could surprise us and open it all
- The ride will be shorter
- We are not likely to encounter goats and sheep
- It will still be cold
- Lunch will be earlier
- You will be home sooner than you thought
Jonathan
Hope the ride was great - I really wanted to make it, but got stuck in Phoenix for work. I finally got home (thanks to slow airlines) at about 3am last night, and just didn't feel like getting up a couple hours later.
Plus work piled up while I was gone...
There's always next year!

JPS
- The road was only open to the 10 mile marker
- We were however the FIRST 5 vehicles of any kind, up this year
- There we practically no others, up or down today
- It is still winter up there and yes, it was cold
- We all got great pics, mine are uploading now, give me an hour
- Please join us next time!
And now a teaser....

The next ride up Mt. Evans
has been proposed for the 'summer solstice'. It is a 2-part ride with:
JPS
- The morning group leaving before sunrise so as to be up there and take pictures of the SUNRISE to the east (with MINI's of coursae)
- The evening group leaves before sunset so as to be up there and take pictures of the SUNSET to the west (with MINIs of course)
- You decide which group to join, then everyone posts pics and enjoys the show, whether there or not
