Love going to Astoria. Great camping at Fort Stevens. Nice looking wheels
You should come in June for a "Goonies" reunion sometime. It's grand fun for all!! Thanks for the good words and the free bump... Have a good one my MINI brother..
Hi,
Couple quick questions: Hamann is still in business...why weren't the two missing face attachment bolts replaced with OEM parts? Are the threads stripped or beyond repair? Are the decorative replacements glued in? You obviously spent a lot of money rebuilding these wheels, why not replace the missing bolts with OEM bolts? Thanks!
I contacted Hamann in the US and German both directly by phone and email both more than two years ago and on more than one occasion. I surfed eBay for weeks on end. I tried wheel shops, several, looking for any spares. I found nothing regardless of my continued and extensive efforts.
Finally, I gave up trying and found some shorter bolts with the same basic head shape and correct thread pattern. I used thread lock on the bolts and doubt they'll unscrew themselves considering there are 18 other OEM bolts in those two wheel faces holding them in place.
I searched hard and for weeks and months on end. Once Hamann stops making a particular wheel they don't keep extra hardware saved for any reason. They no longer produce bolts for discontinued wheels and they don't have "interchangeable" parts. These wheels are close to 20 years old now and it's not a valid option to order bolts from the company when they no longer produce anything for that particular wheel. Believe me when I say "I tried".
In all my searching I did manage to track down and locate 4 original OEM center caps which are quite rare and have not seen since.
I work hard when I pursue something and this was no exception. I tried for weeks and months to locate two, very elusive bolts that I could never managed to track down.
I hope that helps explain why.

Beautiful wheels! I have a set myself mounted on my R53 (though without the center caps, can't seem to find a set of those) and unfortunately had to go through the same process of sourcing a few rims screws as a shop that re-finished them lost 5 of the original screws a few years back.
As you know, Hamann no longer makes the screws for these wheels and it is nearly impossible to find a set (unless you're able to find a bent/wrecked PG2 or PG4 wheel somewhere). But this company makes a screw that is nearly identical (same M7 head, same 1mm pitch, and same 31.5mm bolt length!) http://www.titanium-touch.de/onlines...roducts_id=145
I paid 15 eurors for 5 bolts as well as 20 euros for shipping to CA, for reference. If anyone who buys these wheels would like to replace the short screws with full length ones, I would recommend emailing them and making sure you're getting the titanium screw with the dimensions I mentioned.
Good luck with your sale, whoever buys these will be very happy as they're a gorgeous wheel mounted!
Now they need a minimum of $30 Euros for one order and 4 bolts cost around $12. Thanks for the kind words and for posting the link. That's super cool! Thanks Mate!!
