There's a few places in Chula Vista that have complete engines ranging from $1k to $1700

 

Yes, been watching Car-Part. The engine in CV has 110k miles. Theres a couple in Huntington Beach with supposed low miles but the seller is not very willing to provide details and their online reputation is terrible...

I actually bought a low mile engine (45k) from a trusted/well know Mini wrecking yard, had a (unknown) bad head, repaired, then realized the block was warped... No fault of the seller, but sucked none the less.

 

I guess it's a crapshoot, regardless of mileage :(
There was a guy in Temecula parting out an R53 recently. He might reappear on CL again.
