First traffic tickets in my MINI......
Just got my first ticket in the Mini yesterday. The Trooper let me go with just a careless driving ticket, and one for not having my new insurance card. I was glad, he could have hit me hard, was doing 90 in a 65.
I'm just glad that it wasn't for speeding, still have to go to court because of the insurance card issue. But thats OK, this will cost me a few hundred but it's my own fault.
FYI insurance companies in NJ have caught on to the no points big fine violation and will still crew y ou on premiums. Beware. Most insurance companies in NJ should forgive a 2 pt speeding ticket so that might be the way to go.
Unfortunately I have some experience with tickets in New Jersey as I have two sons. One 30 and the other 27.
Definitely. DEFINITELY go to court. Do not get a lawyer as you don't need one. Get there early and talk to the prosecutor. Be polite but understand he/she will be rushed. Ask outright what kind of deal he can offer and will most likely offer something with no points but the fine will be higher. But you will be paying $720 A YEAR for the next few years so any fine is better than points.
I'd say to pay the tint fine by mail immediately so that is not part of the equation when you see the judge. Dress nicely. Stand up straight. Bring a parent if you can. Trust me they notice.
And be prepared as it will take hours. But you will hear some amazing stories.

Thanks for the advice, however I ended up paying the tickets. I know all of you will get mad at me for doing that, but I honestly didn't feel like dealing with court and my parents didn't want anything to do with it. I just renewed my policy and my insurance hasn't gone up yet, so we'll see what happens when I renew again in November.
