Anyone down South Jersey?
Well. Everyone did some stuff while I was away. Just got back in town. Sorry I was not staying in the loop. when I leave town for extended period of time I am generally in a place where I can not communicate easily. The common sense stuff looks great. Regarding starting a new thread...What if we get innendated with participants?I don't know about you guys, but I AM the country bumpk'n. I don't want to mess this up. It could hurt our longevity in the rally business. I guess we will have to start laying out the route. What do you think about things like length, events, meeting points, and the like.some thoughts?
I'm not worried about being inundated with folks trying to come down to ***-glo-sal counties, lol...
And besides we want more than, like, 3 of us
We should at least post in order to gauge some interest?

Oh, and my only advice re: routes is to mind bridges that may be out. The big one down here that comes to mind is the one on 56 by that lake in Pittsgrove that washed out in the spring...
Here's an idea for a loop that will pass some interesting areas:
Start at West Deptford High School. Has big parking lot & easily accessible from 295.
Take Rt. 44 south into Logan and cut over so we can drive across the Pedricktown causeway which crosses Oldman's Creek & is the dividing line between Gloucester & Salem Counties. (If it's High Tide & the causeway is flooded, it's easy to cut over to Rt. 130 and take that south)
After crossing Oldman's Creek, take 602 East to 620 South to 631 West to 540 South crossing the huge Manningtom Marsh into Salem City. In Salem, take Rt 49 West to Ft. Mott, passing thru Supwanna Meadowns NWR. Stop at Ft. Mott to enjoy views of the Del. Bay & use restrooms.
Leave Ft. Mott & return to Rt. 49 taking it back east thru Salem City to 660. South on 660 to 623 east. crossing into Cumberland County at Stow Creek.
(At Stow Creek, there is a platform where an active Bald Eagle's nest is located. Late Oct. isn't breeding time of year, but we could make a quick stop & see if any of the adults who use the nest are around if there is interest)
Stay on 623 into historic Greenwich where we pick up 607 & head north to 661 continuing north to to 617, taking that east to 605 and stay on 605 east to to 645. 645 will take us by Parvin Park (Possible stop to restroom use if necc.) & back into Salem County. After Parvin, continue on 645 to 690, east on 690 to 555, north on 555 to 322. West on 322 into Glassboro where we can finish at the Landmark for food & drink. Finishing here also provide easy access to Rt. 55 so people can get home easy.
I'd guess that this loop, with stops will take us 3 hours to complete. Route doesn't have too many lights or stop signs on it. Most of the roads are one lane each way rural roads.
Anyway, this is one idea.

Sounds like a great idea!
I happen to live right in Greenwich, so I'm very familiar with much of the route.
And Fort Mott should provide some nice photo ops, it's pretty wide open in the parking lot there...

After I posted the proposed route, I drove the first part, from the start to Ft. Mott. Took lots of notes.
Distance was ~45 miles & driving time ~1 hour & 20 minutes at/near posted speed limits. Most of the route was nice rural roads. Not really many twisties (but then again, lots of South Jersey is farm country) but also not too many stop signs or lights.
I'd guess the 2nd half of the route from Ft. Mott to Glassboro should take roughly the same time.
Thus, if you figure 20-30 minutes at Ft. Mott for pixs/walking around & rest room useage, that will give us a 100 mile tour (+/- 10 miles) & 3 hours. Start at 9-9:30 & throw in an hour or so at the Landmark and everyone should be on their way home by 2ish.
If this route sounds is of interest, let me know & I'll pre-run the 2nd half and make tha appropriate notes.

PS Here's 2 options for the name of the run...A) the GloSamCo Run or B) The Western Jersey Run (Western Jersey being the historical name for this area of the State during the 18th & early 19th century)

Sounds good to me. There used to be, years ago a sign in the Ft. Mott area that says Welcome to Delaware. The Delaware State Line is actually under the Delaware Mem Bridge. That would be a cool landmark to find...if it still exists. But I like the run. Where do you think we can finish in Glassboro? Rowan Main Parking Lot? What about Mantua at the Glo. Co. County Library? The name should be something cool. Jersey Devil Mini Run, isn't it. Western Jersey or Western Dominion Run, might be it. I think during the early 18th Century Jersey was a self-governing teritory, part of the original colonies. I beleive that that would make it a Dominion, similar to Virginia at that period of time. Whatever the name I agree with the Falcon, lets get it out and see the interest...also that there is no conflict with other events for that week-end.By the way excellent work Jeff for running the first part. If no one else says it Thank you.

Here is a revalation:Go to the MINI Owners Lounge from the MINIUSA Main Page.Log In, go to Owners Perks, then to Owner Event Kits, to Fund Racing, Charity Rally and download "Beginner's Guide to Organizing a Road Rally".Ther are 12 pages of stuff out there all looks like pretty good stuff...the CommonSense Stuff Freddy suggested. This could be our big break!
As stated in my earlier post, we can finsih at the Landmark Resturant/Bar in Glassboro. Located near Rowan on 322. They have a decent size parking lot & anyone interested can stay & grab some lunch & get to know each other.
As for conflicts, this time of the year it's unlikely that you'll not find something planned every weekend. I'd say go with the date you've picked & we'll see who shows. People might actually appreciate different options.
I'll pre-run the 2nd part in the next few weeks then type up a detailed rally sheet that can be handed out to all participants at the start.
History & Trivia lesson...
The original boundry for the State of Delaware established by Wm. Penn extends to high water line in Jersey down in Salem & Southern Gloucester County. That stated, the States in the early part of the last century entered into a compact whereby each state could control developement on their side if the river. Recently, BP has proposed building a Liquid Nat. Gas terminal in Logan which will extend into the river. Delaware took the position that notwithstanding the original agreement, they still have the right to approve or reject the project & reject it they did. NJ has sued DE on the issue & the case is presently before the US Supreme Court.
Where in NJ can you WALK from NJ to DE without crossing a body of water or entering a 3rd. state?....Answer, at the northern boundary to Ft. Mott. Quite a few decades ago, the Army Corps of Engineers filled a cove located adjacent to Ft. Mott with drege spoils. It's now called Killcohook NWR. Because of the boundary discussed above, this is in DE. There used to be (not 100% sure now) a footpath that you could take into the NWR. A number of years ago, a kid was apparently riding a motorcycle or atv in the NWR & crashed, injuring himself. While NJ police responded to the scene & rendered assisatnce, apparently DE State Troopers had to be called to dirve over the bridge & write up an official accident report.

Ran the 2nd half of the route.
Bit longer then I anticipated. Cut-off a little bit & came in at ~64 miles & ~ 1 hour, 40 Minutes.
Thus, right now we're looking at a 109 mile loop & roughly 3 hours driving time. If that's too much, let me know & I can knock some more miles off the 2nd half.

Jeff, thanks for the massive amount of planning. I think the drive time should be fine, I'm still up for it!
And also thanks for the history lesson. What kind of law are you in, anyway? Reminds me of my history classes at Rutgers...
Side, welcome! We've been talking about a 10/27 Cumb-Glou-Salem county run, scroll back a few pages for the details!
Have we thought of a name for our run? It's not really the Jersey Devil run (despite the way cool badge idea), cuz we won't be in the Pine Barrens...

As we all know the Jersey Devil does not limited his/her activities to the Pine Barrens. (Please note, present tense)

I work for a personal injury & criminal defense firm.
