Chris,

Would you be passing through Asheville or would you be heading in a different direction to get to the Fontana area?

Chris,

Sounds like a great idea!

Why don't you (and anyone else interested in this) PM me so we can try and get an idea of planned time to leave. As I said before. Either we will head straight up from Charleston on Thursday or will be in Greenville Wed. night ready to go whenever on Thursday>

When is the welcome dinner?

I don't know when we will be leaving the Greenville area. We will be headed up to Asheville and then over. What we were thinking was that we could get there in time to check into the Fontana and motor around some in the area before the Welcome Dinner. Still don't know what time that will start. As I remember, it takes around 3 hours to get to Fontana from here.

Not sure which Chris you are asking so I will answer as well.

I don't really know how we will go. I would assume through Asheville but I have not looked at a map. I would be happy going any way possible if it meant getting together with a few other MINI's for a caravan.

Welcome Dinner is on Thursday night but I don't know the time. I do know the fontana has a 4pm check in but most places will let you check in early if they are ready for you.

Please keep me posted!

Chris and Chris,

As soon as the time is set for the dinner on Thursday, we can work backwards to figure what time we need to be there. My wife and I would like some time to check into our cabin, unpack and relax a bit before dinner. We are taking the whole day off, so we can leave anytime. Eric and Melinda (from the Hickory area) would like to join us in Asheville for the drive over. Looks like we might have at least 5 MINIs.

If anyone gets a definite time on dinner, let us all know.

Kevin,

Sounds good! We are taking that whole day off as well. Once the time is set we can figure it out.

For those meeting in Asheville for the drive over to the Dragon, any thoughts on a meeting time based on the time above? I will look for a meeting place just off I-40 west of Asheville.

It takes nearly 2 hrs to get to the dragon from Asheville? Leave somewhere around 12:30 or maybe before if you would like to get something to eat before heading out?

Kevin,

If it takes 2 hours to get there from Asheville, what about meeting somewhere for a quick lunch (fastfood) right off I-40 between 12:30 and 12:45. If we get away by 1:30, that should give us plenty of time to get checked in and make the dinner by 6.

I'll look for a good place to stop. We'll have the flexibility of changing the time if needed, but 12:30 around Asheville sounds great!

The only place west of Asheville that has fast food is an exit in Canton(exit 31?) or you can stop in Waynesville at the interchange with 276.

The NW FL people should be at the Look-out between 12:30/1:30 on the 5th. We have the time change that always screws us up.

Which one, Canton or Waynesville? It is not fast food but Waynesville has a restaurant near downtown called Bogart's that is real good. There are also several eating places at the West Asheville exit which is exit 44. For those coming up I-26 that exit is west of I-26. Just a thought.

It really doesn't matter to me. I just thought a fast food place near the interstate would get us in and out as quickly as possible since time will likely be an issue. I can be there as early as 12:00 if that helps but I'll meet wherever you guys up in that part of the world decide is best.

I'll be at the Dragon for the whole thing. Arriving Wednesday, May 5th and leaving on Sunday, May 9th. Will be staying at the Fontana in one of the Inn rooms. My wife and kids will be coming up on either Friday or Saturday, so I have a day and a half to enjoy myself.

I planned on being at the Overlook on the Dragon about 11:30am - Noon on Thursday. That way I can do some site seeing or motoring till check-in time and the Welcome Dinner.

Traffic should be light that time of day, so a good time to stop for pictures.

Looks like we now have 2 "Dragon threads" going on. Anyway, I was just checking out all the Dragon registration info. and noticed not too many m2c2 members have "officially" registered yet. Is this something we need to do or most of you intend to do or something that is not really necessary?I"ve heard a lot of things are different this year but I'm a bit confused. What are you guys planning on doing? Registration is like $35 and the Thursday night dinner is $20. Thanks for any feedback.

The registration is mandatory for all drivers taking part in any events that weekend. You can get the basic registration for $5 which covers the liability insurance being used for this event. The $35 registration includes extras like t-shirt, tote bag, etc.
