MCS 05 manual transmission fluid levels

MINI send me a letter informing me that I need to schedule a appointment to check out my manual transmission fluid levels. Does anyone have any additional info on this subject?

As the story goes, the manual transmissions are a sealed case containing a lifetime lubricant. Apparently some transmissions were delivered without enough oil in them..

That's really surprising to hear (lifetime lubracant). Surely with all the teeth meshing and occasional missed shifts (who would ever do that ) that fine metal particles would accumulate in the oil. This implies having to remove the tranny to change the fluid. Well... one of these days I'll need a good excuse to put in a LSD .
