need help fast!!! pulley install gone wrong

I finally got around to installing my alta 15% supercharger pulley. I followed the DIY and it went pretty smooth. I put the car back to gether and started it up. Now I have a clacking sound coming from the supercharger pulley and the tensioner is vibrating. The pulley is spinning smoothly not wobbley. The clacking seems to increase with revs slightly. The worst thing is that my BMW belt tensioner tools welds gave way after one use. Does anyone know what the h*ll is the sound or have experienced a similar sound?

Did you forget a bolt on the tensioner or maybe not torque the pulley bolts properly?

I did not have to take the belt tensioner off because the tool that I purchased eliminated that step. I torqued the pulley down well and used locktite. The belt only has 6000 miles on it. Can someone post a pic of a supercharger pulley installed on the shaft. I would like to see the distance from pulley to supercharger.

what torque spec? remember the torque spec is typically expressed in inch-pounds for the pulley bolts.

I didn't use a torque wrench just the allen key that was supplied with the pulley and some muscle. I looked at some pictures of pullies installed and it looks as if I have some room between the pull and the supercharger because I can see a little bit of the shaft. I guess I will buy another belt tensioner tool and try it again.

Most folks get the took beefed up at a welding shop. Did you install the V2 pulley?

I got the tool from outmotoring and it broke at the welds so I ordered another one with 2 day shipping. It was the version 1 alta pulley. I will take everything apart once the new tool comes in. I think I know what went wrong. The belt doesn't set on the pulley like it suppose to (the ribs aren't aligned. I guess that is what is causing the belt to jump and the tensioner going crazy.

I am sure that someone will disagree with me, but you may want to replace the belt when you take the whole thing apart again. You can pick up a Gatorback from Autozone and get change back from a 20. Not sure what size you would use for a 15% pulley with a 3% crank though.

Finally closure has come. I removed the Alta V1 pulley but had to damage it to get it off. So I ordered a V2 and installed it. Everything lined up and went smoothly. The car feels, sounds, and runs great. Thanks again for all the support.

Wow kudos to you for getting it resolved!

I know for me I couldn't sleep at night knowing everything was not torqued to spec but that's just me...
