Astro Black R56 Picked up yesterday

All Black 07 MCS. Ordered and received in under one month from Towne BMW in Clarence, New York. It pays to be 6 hours from New York City! It's still snowing Upstate so good photos and boring, ill-informed complete 'review' soon come. Initially, after 150 miles, what else can I do but love it? Sport Button is a must. Upgraded Hi-Fi is very nice. Roomier inside. I got all the packages except convienence. Chrome in and out. English Oak (very cool) w/ Piano black trim. 'Secret' compartment' above glove box is functional. CD's in their jewel boxes fit!!! I got the All-Season run-flats this time hoping they would wear better than the Performance tires on my 05 Cooper. This MCS, as compared to my Cooper, is FAST! Wow. Forget about it.

i concur with all the praise! i'm going to be selling a black 5 series BMW and nothing looks as striking as a glossy black car ... and the chrome onlyl adds to it. tough to keep clean ... but a small price to pay for such a nice ride!

happy motoring!

How does one get that "secret compartment". What option/package is it? Is it found in the MC and MCS?

The simple answer is that it's available in every new car.

The more complicated part of it is that there has been a troubled history for the compartment in the past few months.

It's located above the glove box and is meant to hold the multiple CD changer.

The problem started in the U.K. last November, when the first cars off the line lacked the box for some reason. Later, the compartment was added but they discovered it was the source of an annoying rattle.

As a result, MINI ordered dealers to wire it up so it couldn't be opened while engineers tried to figure out how to remove the rattle. In the past few weeks, fresh cars off the line began arriving with the secret compartment open once again. Apparently, they figured out a way to stash the rattle.

Astro Black is my favorite color, but I ordered Sparkling Silver. Too m'm not uch mud and rain in Seattle. Black cars are far more suited to drier climates other than ours. I'm not sure how this thread turned into a "secret compartment" thread??

Hmmm ok thats why some of the ones in the dealer i went to would open and others wouldnt...I found it kind of strange

So if your ordering in the summer then it shouldnt be a problem

I picked up my 07 yesterday, and according to the nice lady who helped me, they need a washer which didn't ship with the car to open the 'secret compartment' in the dash. When it comes in, i just take the car in and let them work their magic.

p.s. love the color, black w/ chrome trim is what i chose too

Seattle guy with an AB/AB on order. I know my silver truck stays cleaner looking longer(a day or 2) than my black cars, but what the heck, get what you want. Life's short.

ymmv

My secret compartment definitely does not open...must be one that got wired shut! But I have no rattles either, so maybe I should be happy!

Maybe Geraldo Rivera will open it like Al Capone's vault after I'm long gone...
