The car you ordered sounded like you had mostly standard features.....did they give you any ideas how much longer or shorter your wait would've been if you would've gotten other features? (i.e. panoramic sun roof etc...) or did they just give you an outline of how long your specific choices were going to take? I'm curious to know because I will get mine soon! I just want to know how long of a wait i've got once i've placed the order?!
Oh, and this may sound like a stupid question...
...but do they build every order like that? Or do they have models that are premade?? Like lets say i went in and ordered a mini w/ my specifications..... is it more or less likely that they'd have it in stock already?!?!

Thumper, if your car is on the dock, you can find out which ship it's scheduled for from the WLNA site, and quite possibly (depending on vessel) track the progress across the pond via the accuweather or oceanweather websites. The instructions are in one of the threads, but I'm not sure which one.
Yellow, I can bug the dealer, but it's not going to help in getting the DMV to move any quicker! If I weren't getting new plates, I could probably pick up sooner.
(A NYS dealer licensed by DMV must have the proper proof of ownership before selling you a car. The proof for a new vehicle is the Manufacturer’s Certificate or Statement of origin (MCO or MSO), plus the dealer’s bill of sale (MV-50). )

In general I don't think options should impact your wait. The intention is clearly that they shouldn't. Unfortunately, production of the MINI uses "just in time" inventory management and so it is possible that a significant delay could impact certain cars. Predicting what these items might be seems to be difficult to impossible before the delays occur.
In regards to the second question, here is my understanding. Cars specifications are generated by the system in a variety of standard configurations and then the production numbers for those cars are given to the dealers. When the dealer takes your order he/she chooses one of these numbers, assigns it to you and changes it to match your order. This is why when you get a production number it is possible that the online owners lounge is vastly different from your car for a few days until the system updates.
In the factory every car down the line is unique based on the ordered specification. So no batches of colors or features, every car is a "special case". Really a very sophisticated proposition from a manufacturing standpoint. Hope this helps!

GEEZ!
How are you people getting your cars so quickly? I ordered mine almost three weeks ago and it won't be here until January 2003! The dealership told me they only get 22 order slots per month and that this month (Aug) they are just placing the orders they sold in May. Maybe Southern California has a higher demand?

I think a lot of the different "order placements" is basically how different dealers do business. I put down a deposit in April and told them then what my "order" was. Then in July when they had a production # available, I really placed my order...it was for an 8/2 production date.
Anyone ordered and received from Roadshow in Memphis? How long from arrival at the VPC until it was received and available at the dealer? I'm anxiously awaiting my MINI which is on a boat right now!!!!!

I would imagine that one reason is because you're waiting for the "S". I was told that there was a longer wait for those when I ordered my car.

DanaRae, I ordered mine in Boston at roughly the same time as you, and I'm not due to see it until December. I was even told the same thing about them only being up to May on their ordering list. Guess we'll both be starting 2003 in style though,no?

I think part of the additional wait is they are tooling down production of the 2002 and there is a gap until production/release of 2003.

Careful, you may have a greedy dealer. With only so many cars alloted to each dealer, there is no incentive to sell to people on the list. They can get a better price premium from general allotments then they can from wait listed custom orders. I would give a mini nudge to the dealer and see if you can break your order free. I have had a similar experience. The dealer made a big mistake on my first order, but was more than happy to re-order (after a month delay), they have already taken delivery on the 'mistake' and sold it at a premium. Mine won't be available for another month.
