Seeking Advice on Brakes

Feel I might be at a point where I may need to upgrade my brakes on 06 MCS. Wheels are 17". Have looked over lots of posts but have not been able to come to any real conclusion. I drive mostly on the street, not real aggressive, may do a few track days. Love to do the back roads also. Any comments/suggestions. Stock brakes currently.

Should add mods are Dinan S1 package, 15% pulley and rear sway bar.

Thanks!

Why do you think you need to upgrade your brakes?
What about them is not working for you presently?

06 MCS is fairly new so your pads and fluid are OK.

For street use the stock brakes are fine. Nothing wrong with Hawk pads, you can contact Alex@tirerack.com for the details and options.

Even with the other upgrades planned stock brakes will work.

You drive mostly street- no real need to upgrade brakes
... not real aggressive- seems that the brakes are working.
... may do track days- OK this is where maybe some additions might help.

Brake fluid- very helpful to resist overheating and brake fade which happens on the track when doing laps with hard braking. Stock fluid handles about 10 hard stops then boils. Upgraded fluid can easily be added to your MINI to replace the stock fluid.

Brake pads that can handle heat better than stock- these help alot and sometimes will cast less brake dust if they are good street pads but track pads tend to produce a fair amount of dust and wear rotors a bit faster.

No need to upgrade rotors unless you like the look or you have worn out your stock rotors.

Caliper bushing upgrades and Stainless steel linings are not really needed for street driving, the stock parts will work.

To me is seems more benefit would be from using lighter weight wheels and good sticky non runflat tires like Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 or similar. Excellent for the street and for performance driving and lighter wheels will make braking easier and faster.

Buy the Powerslot rotors in the Classifieds. Buy Hawk Ceramic pads. Buy a Motive Brake bleeder and optional cap that fits the Mini. Buy Valvoline Syn Dot4 fluid for street and Motive 600rbf for track.
