U.S. R56 exhaust sound?

There's loads of clips online of the burble-ific non-U.S. MINIs, but does anybody have any sound clips of the U.S.-specific MCS exhaust?

Is the exhaust different on the US models?

Same exhaust, different tuning. The burble is all in the tuning.

Check this video on Youtube for the US spec exhaust sound:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYv32FB6MXA. Go to 1:38 to hear the US exhaust. The burble is gone. :(

From what I understand it is just a change in the ECU, and I hope that MINIUSA will let us request a flash to return the burbles.

Sounds like there is a market for a "burble chip"!

Thanks!

Still fairly aggressive, but a touch too "clean" for my taste.

maybe a lot of R53 owners complained about the noise.

When I'm slowing down by letting off of the throttle there seems to be a hint of a burble there. I can here some faint extra popping/noise. Not sure how it sounds externally.

You are correct, r56mini. There were a lot of complaints when the burble was increased during the '05 models so that a tsb was released. The popping noise from the rear of the car was reported by unknowing customers as something wrong with the cars. MINIUSA decided to remove the burble from the R56 to prevent complaints about something intentional.

To know what we are missing, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLAJDxegxFg.

I will be glad to join current and future R56 owners in a campaign to SAVE THE BURBLES!!

Yes, the burble is a fuel rich mixture, basically a bunch of micro explosions in your exhaust, hence, it's not the best thing for the environment. Someone on a different thread reported the R53/50 had a pollution score of 2 on a 0 to 10 scale (10 best) the new is a 6 and a marked improvement. For that improvment, the burble can go.

Burbles are for soda pop drinkers (cool-aid drinkers in the USA)
The best sound for the MC & MCS is the JCW sports exhausts that are fitted CAT back. I got one on my 06 cooper and it sounds like the origial coopers of the 1960's - original sounds. Put your foot down, hear it roar.

I was under the impression that the burble got the Axe because it didn't sit well with American drivers who didn't understand why there cars were so noisy.

I was under the same impression. that when they surveyed R53 owners the majority said they did not like the burble as they thought there was something wrong with their car. Obviously there werent too many people from NAM in those groups
