Pre-Dragon tech day @ Grassroots Garage - March 31st

I would like to invite everyone for a tech day to do inspections of owners MINIs before heading to the DRAGON in May.

We're talking brake inspections, Tire inspections, fluids and other minor things.

Let me know who would like to go and we'll meet up at GrassRoots Garage around 12pm on March 31st. Then head out for a bite to eat afterwards.
Possibly Tommy's BBQ

Heck, just come for the BBQ and the MINI's

That is fantastic! Everyone heading to the dragon should go there confident that their MINI is ready for the challenge!

Dan set up my car for the HPDE at CMP and it performed flawlessly.

I'm also in on an Invidia group buy on NAM and it's getting shipped straight to Dan. I wouldn't let anybody else install it! (Even though he's going to tell me I should have bought the Milltek ;-0 ).

Hey Dan,
This is a great idea! People will definately be using alot of their brakes on the Dragon. Thanks for offering.
One problem though... this is the same day as our Quarterly Meeting in Hickory.

Maybe you guys could get started early enough to come join us for lunch @ 1pm.

In all fairness, Dave, I have not heard the Invidia, so I will not pass judgement just yet.

Shame about the conflict, but my services are always available for those who can't make it here.

Dan,

I would like to come out but will be up in the mountains fly-fishing. Wish I could take the Mini but alas I do not think that it will hold all the camping gear.
I have been meaning to get in touch with to get a pulley installed. I have a GT Tuning Pulley from England. It is a mild steel unit and I would much prefer one made from stainless steel. I like that fact that it is an interference fit as opposed a taper lock. The other thing I do not like is that it does not have a shoulder on both sides to prevent the belt "walking". I was thinking about an Alta Pulley so that I can get it over and done with. What would you recommend?

Thanks
Joe

Hey Joe,

I keep CravenSpeed pullies in stock, they are just like Alta's. Also, installing the interference fit bushings onto the supercharger is tricky and requires techniques that are potentially hazardous to your car .

Call me, and we'll get it done.
Cheers,

Transmission Oil

Dan,

While I am thinking about it. I want to change my tranny oil and was thinking of going to Redline based on positive reviews that I have read on the forum and past experience using it in my Seven. I have the factory LSD, which I am assuming is the plate style LSD. What oil is recommended for the tranny with the LSD, as from past experience one needs to be careful of tranny oil with friction modifiers. Does this apply to the factory LSD?

Once Again, Thank You
Joe

I am always by appointment only, so Saturdays fill up quick (currently open for April 28th) but perhaps we can work something out before that when we talk.
I will look into a suitable trans oil for the LSD. The Quaife units work well with MTL, but I would not use it with the clutch type. You are right about having to be careful with fluids. It is a synthetic in there now, most likely you will not need to replace it for a long time, trannies do not see the kind of abuse that motor oil does, but we can check it anyway!

Joe,
I have posed the question with Redline, I will post their reply when I get it.

Hi Dan,

I know that MTL redline is recommended for the Gertrag box but I am not sure whether it is the correct oil if you are running the factory LSD. The Quaife setup works on a different principle so MTL will be a great substitute for the factory fill.

When I specced my Cooper S I was under the impression that the OEM LSD was a quaife unit, come to find out that it is not. I must admit that I am a little disappointed with the hook-up, or lack thereof from the BMW LSD. I do not want to make it any worse by putting in the wrong oil. It is pretty easy to set off the traction control when only putting moderate power down through the corner.

That is why I asked them if it is compatible, still no response from them however. about the traction control kicking in, an MTH tuner remap will fix that, and give you more HP, just something to consider

Cheers,
