TRIUMPH-MINI????

I was looking at motoringfun.com and saw this rendering of a TRIUMPH/MINI roadster concept... It looks amazing.. I hope they make it happen, I am sure a lot of people will love to drive a car like that... It will be a great answer to the Saturn SKY and Pontiac Solstice..WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? Is there any more info on this concept?? drool..drool..

This is a topic bantered about occasionally on motoringfile.com.....
But I firmly believe that a MINI Triumph TRx could easily be built on the Z4 platform with mainly just a skin change...and be quite marketable.
But that concept drawing is NOT attractive at all

Looks like the bastard child of a Mustang and a TR6. I love the red stripe tyres, though.

Looks like a chopped Mustang to me. Not worthy of the Triumph name IMO.

I agree with Agro and Rick-Anderson. My first thought was, "Mustang!" There already is a convertible MINI that looks like a MINI.

Yeah this is a fairly old news/rumor. Here are a few articles on MotoringFile from January 2006 for more info:

Door #1...

or door #2...

I'll take door #1 every time. Reminds me, fondly, of my '72 TR6.

Don't get me wrong, I would be the first on the list if it were to go into production!

Acutally I see more 69 Camaro in the side profile but as this is an artist rendering I am sure they could find some more TR-6 and less muscle car. That stance is very aggresive and says V8 to me but if this is to bea Mini product I think that would have to change.

Just an FYI - The ACV 30 actually debuted in 1997. It was far reaching concept that had little chance of ever seeing production. The car was based on the MGF-Roadster with the engine located behind the drivers seat.

The design was directed by Adrian Van Hooydonk who also designed the BMW 7 Series and 6 Series.

Ah yes, now I remember why I don't comment much anymore. Try to shed some light on a subject and you get slammed.

You "slammed" MINIATIC by implying that his post is worthless because MotoringFile reported on this months ago. I was merely pointing out that the Motoring Fun article included a concept drawing, and thus new information.

I seriously don't know how you can read that into anything I posted above. It was certainly not how the comment was intended. I think it's a great (if not old) rumor and I was simply agreeing with another post above and trying to share a bit more info on the subject.

Again I'll try keep any insights or additional info to myself in the future.

No problem Gabe. Don't keep you insights to yourself though. I think this is an interesting thread and I thank you all. That Triumph isn't where I would like to see it yet but its a great idea to keep some heat in the coals because it could turn into something. The TR6 is great but, what, like 85 whp? New MINI technology, MINI creativity reaching to Triumph tradition . . . eh, Gromit?

Sometimes a picture says more than a thousand words and that's why I started this thread. I saw the firs artist rendering at www.motoringfun.com and love the concept.. I had read about a concept in motorinfile previously but never saw the sketch there..but now that we all can see the sketch I go back to the question I started my thread with? DO U LIKE IT? WOLD YOU BUY ONE?

Other than the approximate grille shape...

... and four wheels, my eyes aren't able to discern much TR6 there. Where did the squared-off wheel arches come from, a Dodge Ram? They're not part of the Triumph's design DNA and sure as s#!t not part of the Mini's. Creative, to be sure. But the Mini/Triumph TR6 connection is ethereal at best.

Reminds me more of a Cad XLR without the go-for-baroque nose and over-chiseled surfaces. (Which I am well aware, leaves d@#ned little XLR DNA as well)

Thanks for posting those links Gabe - good background info there .

Interesting comments regarding the drawing guys... I suppose I can kinda see where those making the Mustang references are coming from. Keep in mind that this is just what one artist "thinks" the car will look like and that it will probably look quite different by the time 2012 rolls around.

As for if I would buy one? If I could get away with a 2-seater, sure! But since I have a little one to drive around, a back seat is needed (same reason the GP was out for me). I just need to win the lotto and then I can get a fun 2-seater weekend car .

i LOVE it. i'd definitely definitely want one (but hopefully i'll still be driving my r53 and loving it then ), one for being another reincarnation of a great brit classic, two for how great it's gonna be given that it'll come from mini/bmw. i read that if it happens it might be based on the future smaller-than-z4 bmw roadster platform, 'cuz it'd have to be rwd. they paid for and kept the triumph marque, might as well put it to good use
